Re: The New Tram/Light Rail Line

The point that I wanted to address was the comment about Adelaide Metro rail. Yes it is a small system and should really operate two lines - one to the north, to Elizabeth and Gawler and the other to the South - Norlunga and Seaton. And this ignores the total chaos with Gawler line electrification, ...

Re: The New Tram/Light Rail Line

Thanks tonyp and swtt for your responses which make sense - to be honest I expected a response along those lines, noting that original piece was the usual union drivel. The STA in Adelaide was privatised into several contract zones and one of its main purposes was to break the stranglehold of the Mo...

The New Tram/Light Rail Line

From all the various comments in this forum I thought trams/light rail were the answer to everything - this new line seems to have been a total failure, why????? If there was a capacity problem with existing (low capacity) buses, then perhaps large double deckers, with twin staircases and multiple e...

Sydney Rail T8 from the South via Airports to the City

In the current timetable the T8 is shown as arriving at Central and then traveling via the City Circle to Town Hall:

1. Which platform does it use at Town Hall (when arriving from the Airport via Central).
2. Which service does the T8 become after Town Hall.

Thanks!

Re: Custom Denning Discussion / Observations

Thanks Tonyp and others, I have just seen the ABC video review and read the full article - "outstanding" was the word that was used several times to describe various aspects of this bus. To have designed and built this bus in this country, which seems so far ahead of other electric buses, is an abso...

Re: Custom Denning Discussion / Observations

The internal layout does seem very good and does look professional and the exterior is smart and stylish, it really would be quite something if Custom Denning were able to export this electric bus in reasonable numbers - however, there is some pretty stiff competition in this area, so all the very b...

Re: Southlink 3401 in Hindmarsh Square, Wed 17/03/2021

A very competent bus and a reliable performer, often on the road 7 days per week.

The extensive tree guard apparatus seems to have done the trick.

I often walk out on the the main road next to where I live and see this bus in action!!

Re: KMB HK orders 56 new ADL Enviro 500's

Photos of the first of the production batch of 12.5mtr 3 door AD500's for Singapore are shown on the "Oriental Model Buses" website.

They would be a great addition to most fleets and probably would be acceptable to those who worry excessively about "dwell times".

Silver Eagles in Australia

Has anyone got a full fleet list of Silver Eagles imported into Australia. My understanding is that there were 2 batches imported, the series 05's (from Belgium) and the later series 10's (from Texas), most units went to Greyhound, but I am aware of a couple of other recipients - Levers and Batterha...

Re: Bustech Discussion / Observations

Rather than hijack this topic, I am happy to have a separate topic where we can discuss the relative merits of double deckers vs. artics, although we have probably been through all this before.

By the way, I do not think that "dwell time" is the only factor when considering bus types/configurations!!

KMB HK orders 56 new ADL Enviro 500's

Some of this information was sourced from a recent article by ABC magazine. The latest order, just announced for 56 three-axle Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) Enviro500 by Kowloon Motor Bus Company HK will take the total of Enviro 500's in their fleet to more than 2,500 by year end. KMB is the larges...

Re: Bustech Discussion / Observations

I really do not think that artics in Australia are that fast with loading and unloading passengers, I also think double deckers are not that slow in this area, in any event Singapore is taking delivery of 50 MAN DD's with 3 doors and 2 staircases, but the layout at the back is very poor, a high floo...

Re: Bustech Discussion / Observations

Well, this is interesting! Do we know where this is going?? Obviously the bus will be a "kombo" with a low floor section only at the front, I really thought Bustech would go on to produce a full low floor artic as per the concept drawings. As I say, this is very interesting, but surprising - but I d...

Re: Bustech Discussion / Observations

As mentioned previously, I think and would hope that drawings that we can are just concepts and that the actual buses will indeed have double width doors at the front, artics will be 17 -18mtrs in length and d/deckers will have 3 axles. I do agree that the window line should be level, as shown on th...

Re: Flinders line patronage up

When this line extension was originally envisaged, some years ago, it was planned to be a full bus-rail interchange and would properly serve the Flinders Medical Centre, by similarly being close to the main entrance. A lot of older people use hospitals and not all of them drive or are willing to try...

Re: Flinders line patronage up

Do remember that the patronage on the old Tonsley line was very low, so one would expect a reasonable increase, but can you imagine how successful this Flinders line could have been if the terminus had of been adjacent to the bus interchange, instead of being over 1km from it - we do some strange th...

Re: Australian Aviation Thread 2021

Well, this is a little s**t fight between Rex and Qantas, but it should be remembered that Rex is entering Qantas's domain flying Melbourne - Sydney, even at the ridiculous introductory fare of $49 and they must expect retaliation on their regional network, where they are somewhat vulnerable. Additi...

Re: Bustech Discussion / Observations

I would still like to see a level window line as in their new concept stuff - I really do not know why they persist with this angled window line, when adverse comments seem to be the norm, regarding outside seated vision. Now if operators bought their CDI DD's in big numbers (just to satisfy tonyp's...

Re: Bustech Discussion / Observations

That rising window line is not at all compatible with the flat floor, as you have noted, the bloke with the papers, is reasonably close to the front and he would have some difficulty seeing out, let alone if he was close to the back. The concept drawings for their new range, does show the preferable...

Re: State Transit Authority 2856ST (MAN ND323F). 26/1/21

I really do not see the need to cover windows - In Adelaide we have 2 double deckers and they carry hideous adverts. on the RHS which, in both cases, covers virtually the entire side. Similarly most of the trams have all over advertising (including windows) - often the adverts are for either TV news...

Something of a "nothing story" is this - as said, 3 of the 4 listed faults are body problems and having operated buses, are common!
