Re: Width & mass rules limiting electric transition in EVC report
Let us talk about axle weights and "pounding the hell" out of the road surfaces. I honestly believe and I have heard the said by experts, that tri-axle trailers on trucks and their trailers do a lot more harm to road surfaces than a single heavier bus axle - the scrubbing axles of a rigid,...

Re: Safer Freight Package - Trucks can now be 2.55m
Tonyp's points are valid, regarding the replacement of trams with large capacity buses - it is though a great shame that all the tram lines were ripped up, the powers that be keep talking about reinstating a lot of these lines, I doubt that it will happen.

Re: Safer Freight Package - Trucks can now be 2.55m
The over width Adelaide buses commenced during the MTT Adelaide period and it was often suggested that Mr Bunny Aust (Engineer or maybe Chief Engineer of the MTT) calculated that by building buses to 8' 6" width, the passenger capacity would be increased by "x" (?) numbers of people -...

Re: DD's in service in AU - Updated Liisting
Would it be correct to assume that no further Bustech CDI's will be produced, particularly as conventional 3 axle DD's conform to the current axle weight allowances. I was in Singapore recently and rode both types of 3 door, twin staircase DD's - the Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 is clearly the better...

Re: The Bus Australia Forum - now and the future
I still believe this forum needs some direction - it should not be hijacked by those with their particular "hobby horses", as noted above, neither should it be a medium for bus drivers' rants. However, if that is the way you (the majority) want it, then I believe bus enthusiasts will be po...

Re: The Bus Australia Forum - now and the future
Yes Eddy, your comments are correct - the emphasis is obviously on buses, but other transport is covered and I probably should have noted that, but I honestly feel that the Forum will not "prosper" if those few contributors continue push their pet subjects over and over again.

The Bus Australia Forum - now and the future
What is the future of the Bus Australia forum, it seems to be dying and the probable reason is that some of postings have lost their way. The forum is supposed to be about buses - their history, current and future types, routes and timetables and the operations in general. But postings now seem to b...

Re: What It Was Like
The Albion Vikings were great fun, probably best described as basic and under-powered, but they were reliable - the only major fault that I was aware of was that, they could jam in the top gear (6) if a reasonable change down (to a lower gear) was not done. 6 speed constant mesh gearbox, Leyland 040...

Re: Bustech Discussion / Observations
Would I be correct in saying that production of the CDI decker is over - I have accounted for 78 examples in total which would include 4 or more longer ones for Skybus Melbourne and a day coach version now operated by Thompsons, Brisbane. Now conventional 3 axle deckers are within the current axle w...

Re: Tram commuters along Glenelg line facing nine-month closure during overpass construction
My comment regarding traffic light sequencing had nothing to do with temporary arrangements during road and/or bridge works, what I was, in fact, mentioning was that Adelaide's traffic light sequences. for quite a nymber of major intersections are appalling, with very short "green runs" wh...

Re: Tram commuters along Glenelg line facing nine-month closure during overpass construction
I think that the time frame is totally pathetic - I live close to the Glen Osmond/Fullarton Rd. intersection and the slow progress on this somewhat dubious upgrade is incredibily slow. We often go through the intersection, either by car or on foot and the lack of productivity is blatently obvious - ...

Yes, they are poorly patronised services, but then the sparse timetabling (and the lack of congestion) would influence would be passengers. With another chap I owned and ran Murtons in Broken Hill (from Adelaide) from 1985 to 2017 and quality of buses + the timetables has strong influence on passeng...

Re: InDaily Article
Simple answer to the article heading Can he fix it?? - no, without a shadow of doubt! The levels of operating subsidy, built into the contracts in regional towns in SA, are pathetic. You have to wonder how resentful the residents of towns, such as Mount Gambier, Port Augusta and Whyalla, must be whe...

Re: Size of the Australian capital city public transport fleet
Yes, Adelaide's area maybe even larger - Wikipedia quotes the Greater Adelaide area as 3,259sq/kms whereas Birmingham was quoted as 268sq/kms. I would have thought Adelaide's area was more like 1,800sq/kms and Birmingham's closer to 350sq/kms - but the point stands that it must be easier to provide ...

Re: Size of the Australian capital city public transport fleet
As a matter of interest, it is worth sizes and population of Adelaide and Birmingham (UK). Adelaide has a population of 1.4m and stretches 96kms north to south and 20kms west to east, whereas Birmingham has a population of 1.1m and is about 22kms north to south and 14kms west to east - a small land ...

I live close to the centre of Adelaide and have post delivered to a post box. So that may assist with our deliveries. In the past postal deliv...
