Re: STA Observations 2021
From my usual Sydney observation point overlooking Woolloomooloo, I see this massive stream of buses using the ED southbound in the morning peak. I assume these are buses returning from the city empty and buses from Chatswood to Bondi junction? Are there any UNSW services among these? AFIK there ar...

Re: STA Observations 2021
For some time I've noticed at least in the morning there are either security guards or TransportNSW staff (in orange hi-vis) at some key bus stops doing headcounts of people on buses - whether they're counting those wearing, or not wearing, a mask I'm not sure but it seems that's what they're lookin...

Re: Metro trackwork
Thanks for reporting in however I'm not sure if it just me, but I cannot see any pictures you may have posted. Not just you - I don't see any pictures either. BTW I don't think anyone said there was an "assumption and assertion to believe Sydney Metro is fully automated" during a time of disruption...

Re: December Bus Changes - Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore
I can only presume it was one of those rostering quirks that led to one of the Brookvale articulated Euro3 Volvos operating, of all routes, a route 243 starting from Neutral Bay Junction towards North Cremorne [then Spit Junction]. Would hardly think a route 243 service needed an articulated bus, le...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
There's a post on one of the popular railway groups on Facebook that is saying a V-set derailed at Rhodes yesterday, does anyone know anything more about it as there's no news articles? (you'd figure in this society it would've made the news) Came across a YouTube video where somebody was showing t...

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7
I guess while they managed to put up route arrows for the 115 up to a week before it went live, they somehow didn't manage to remove the old "pre-Better Buses North" arrows (eg. the ones that show route 294 via Pacific Highway at Crows Nest) or even the 140 ones, nor did they update the stop signage...

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7
Why did they end the service at 8? It's the North Shore classed as a quiet country town? That would be a question for the former Labor Government, 340 was M40 and Metrobus = it was their initiative. Up till now, after 8pm if you lived in that area of Willoughby, you'd have to take the slow all stop...

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations
and the worst time for one to stop working is when you have an inspector checking tickets, which is exactly what happened when my first card failed. And how did this get resolved/not resolved? Probably a fortuitous thing that this was when Opal was 8 journeys then free, and the trip before (a bus t...

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations
With replacement cards, it's possible to do what Singapore did - and if the cards are not showing signs of failure, extend their validity when they are used. The 'replacement' time is largely governed by the manufactures recommendations on card life - the flash memory has limited lifespan. SE Queen...

Re: December Bus Changes - Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore
After 200 gets truncated to Campbell St, there won't be any more services that will turn into Brown Street (officially). I think the key word here was "officially", since the 144 bus around 2pm I was on today going to Chatswood still turned onto Brown Street, and while I didn't pay attention to the...

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7
Looks like there won't be a spearate notice regarding these changes. The @BusesInfo Twitter handle is simply reusing the 3/12/2020 one (unlike the Northern Beaches changes). https://mobile.twitter.com/BusesInfo/status/1348379275351760896 I think the Northern Beaches notice had some changes from the...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
I don't know how long it has been there, but in the escalator atrium between Wynyard Walk and Clarence St, there is a massive video wall with CGI simulations of Wynyard station featuring trams, single deck trains and Waratahs. Very cleverly done, well worth a visit. Takes about 3 minutes to cycle t...

Re: STA Observations 2021
Noticing a route 200 bus at St Leonards heading towards the city this afternoon with "CITY - Macquarie St" as the destination (must be recently introduced!) which I am guessing could be related to the Harbour Bridge works. It looked like a Willoughby bus doing the run I saw (was one of the low floor...

Re: STA Observations 2020
Just noticed when browsing the Australian Bus Fleet Lists website: x3 Iveco Metro Volgren Optimus buses (2696 ST, 2698 ST, 2700 ST) have been transferred from Randwick to Mona Vale. I'm guessing this is to do with the recent new Northern Beaches Region 8 network? It's quite interesting because I do...

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7
I just hope the changes to route 200 will reduce the extreme amount of padding some services have during peak hour. Having sat on a bus that waited 14(!) minutes at North Sydney, crawled up the Pacific Highway at a snail's pace and then another few minutes at Crows Nest was infuriating to say the l...

Re: STA Observations 2020
Roughly same time the next day the same indicators didn't show the school services, so could have been a glitch somebody realised eventually. Are these the liquid paper? screens they were trialling a while back? No - these are the ones installed when the B-Line concept (ie. the B1 route) was launch...

Re: STA Observations 2020
The bus stop indicators at Neutral Bay Junction I noticed the other day now show the school buses on them where they didn't previously (eg. "592n Chatswood") This was in the afternoon, and I did take a photo but haven't had a chance to take it off the phone/upload it here yet. Roughly same time the...

Re: December Bus Changes - Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore
Another subtle change to the 144 routing, which drivers sometimes do in PM peak I have noticed (and 533 drivers already do now), is Chatswood bound services according to the region map go up the Pacific Highway all the way to Railway St then make a right and continue to the terminus, instead of maki...

Re: December Bus Changes - Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore
If you look at it now, that mistake has been fixed now. Route 114 doesn't replace 144 though. It replaces 257 😁 I suspect more than a rush job on that page - quite frankly, like the route network, it needs an overhaul itself. There is the acknowledgement of the routes 281/282/283 going via Victoria...

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7
I have a minor inkling of suspicion that the new Route 200 will replace Route 320 at the northern end when Region 9 changes (CSELR + other changes) are put into place. So it'll just be Route 320 Mascot - City (Martin Place?) via Rosebery and Route 200 Gore Hill - City - Bondi Jn (Gore Hill - City t...

Re: December Bus Changes - Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore

This route has actually been modified to become a local feeder service between Spit Jct. and Neutral Bay Jct. with AM inbound services extending to Wynyard and PM outbound trips commencing from Wynyard....

Re: Jan 2021 bus changes - STA region 7
I am highly concerned that the discontinuation of routes like 515 and 518 will make passengers from the popular Chinese suburbs such as Eastwood and Macquarie University suffer as there will be no direct city service for them. No offence, but generically speaking I'm not sure it really matters if t...
