Re: South West Rail Link (SWRL) Progress
Especially the unsatisfactory way they have rolled it out- only on maps really. Where are the T designations on trains, PIDs, platform signs and direction signs? Either do it properly or don't do it at all. At the moment we were better off with the previous line names and colour codes. I'm aware th...

Re: Railway Observations - December 2014
The point of having 4 tracks on the K2RQ is not only for now but into the future. As I pointed out,it wouldnt matter if it was three tracks or four, the cost of building this instructure was huge because it was not a greenfield site but adaption of existing corridor.. That's a pretty significant poin...

Re: Railway Observations - November 2014
Actually only the Down platform is in Dunmore. The Up platform is in Croom. The GNB is no repository of common sense, it lost the plot years ago. I had this attitude too until I met someone from the SES. The emergency services have representatives on the Geographical Names Board to ensure that thin...

Re: Introducing OPAL Card
I had occasion to visit Wollongong yesterday and was surprised to see quite poor take-up of Opal, even with it being a Sunday with the $2.50 cap. * Of the approximately 80-100 passengers alighting at Wollongong Station from the City service, a maximum of 15 tapped off with their Opal card.... * I r...

Its one of Reims France trams been operating since 2011 and using APS third rail pick up.Who ever did that story needs to know the difference between a Reims tram and a Bordeaux tram.Pictures from Wikipedia. Re: Introducing OPAL Card
Saw on the 555 bus today the Opal reader wants passengers to tap on and off. Maybe someone want to test what will happen to their card? http://i.imgur.com/nl8Rp0R.jpg Two of these entries are from the Gong Shuttle, see if you can guess which. :-) The two entries represent a single journey tap on at...

Railway Observations - November 2014
How often were these trains running back, as the 131500 and Sydney Trains website suggested no special timetable (that I could find), despite words to that effect. And how did it go via accommodation, viz bikes and people. I spent the weekend in Sydney and only ran across this on my way home Sunday...

Re: Railway Observations - November 2014
Sydney bound services were operating from platform 2 at Fairy Meadow Station today. This year the Sydney to Gong bike ride finished at Thomas Dalton Park for which Fairy Meadow is the closest station. Access to platform 1 from the park either means a level crossing of the tracks or carrying bikes do...

^Have you deducted 3 buses from Dions which they are UoW shuttle buses and do NOT have Wayfarer installed? I'm pretty sure all the free gone shuttle buses I've ridden recently had opal readers installed. Perhaps, they want you to tap on to count your patronage even if it's a $0 fare? Maybe the read...

Re: Maldon to Dombarton Link (Split from NWRL discussion)
Something interesting to consider... The proposed intermodal terminal at Moorebank will probably end up taking up most of the available rail capacity between it and Port Botany on the Sydney Goods line. Perhaps the Maldon-Dombarton line will relieve some of the competing traffic and make the intermo...

Re: Petition against narrow tunnels on North West Rail line
Does anyone know of any other city with both single decker metro and double decker suburban, and know which came first? Milan? Milan started building a single deck underground metro system in the 1950s. The first line opened in 1964. It's since built 3 more lines and a 5th is due to open next year....

Re: Light Rail Implementation 2013/4 _MLR Extension
The Urbos 3 has exactly the same mechanical platform - fixed trucks attached rigidly to the body. Pretty wearing on the tram as well as the tracks. This matches my experience on the Urbos 3 today. I caught it from Convention through to Dulwich Hill Interchange to see if it handled speeds in the Gle...

Re: And anotrher one goes down
Dammit. I was there at 12:20 today to meet some friends. I noticed an opal enabled Forrest bus passing though, I suppose it was doing trackwork replacement duty. Even while I was there a group of people weren't paying attention and were almost hit by a car turning into one of the narrow side streets...

Re: NSW Future Rail Plan - NWRL/Metro/Harbour Crossing
Anyway, that's my guesswork on the limited information at hand. I'll throw it over to you all. Thoughts? Thanks for such an awesome post! The solution you've suggested might run into reliability problems due to the bottlenecks getting into Sydney Terminal. The intercity trains seem to be more vulne...

Re: Opal Card Fare Issues
I had some glitches with Opal this afternoon when I caught the train from Epping to Hornsby and back. It seems the tap on and off at Epping was not registered plus the time stamp on the trip from Epping to Hornsby was put back to just before midnight on Tuesday. I've sent a message to opal customer ...

I've only just seen this, but apparently the Tramway de Tours has already had its first fatal accident back in April. My French is limited but the pictures speak for themselves. Anyone with better language skills is welcome to translate.

..Anyhow, if they are installed at light rail stations, they would presumably be placed similarly to those at ungated train stations (at station entry/exit points or on the approach.. That seems to be the plan at Central. I don't recall these pole bases being here on Thursday. https://twitter.com/m...

No, I didn't feel game to try. However, those signs were posted along the wall to align with the doors of the tram. If there wasn't a problem why have the signs?boronia wrote: Did you push the button to open it?

Re: Delivery of new trams for Inner West Light Rail Extensio
Mckinlayr, did you take that photo before or after today's delay? Taken before the delay. The new seats are a hard plastic and 2110 did seem to rumble and shake much more than the Varios running at speed in the tunnel between Glebe and Jubilee Park. There were also moments when the interior lights ...

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
One CSELR amendment has been to replace the more-than-adequate side platforms (one of them blending into a plaza with huge dispersal capacity) at UNSW (Anzac Parade) with a single centre-island platform in the middle of the road. Apart from the lack of waiting/holding space, the platform will be we...
