Re: Transport for Brisbane Observations 2024
At least it's only a temporary pain until the new P3 opens at Cultural Centre, and a through-lane to West End is restored (although this will involve a separate light phase at Cultural Centre as the Busway services will have to cross sides of the road here...).

Re: WA Transport General Discussion & Questions
My educated guess would be that perhaps some additional B-sets have been rotated off-traffic for maintenance during the reduced demand period, and A-sets cascaded across to make up for the lost stock.

Re: 200 new Rail Replacment Buses
They might be useful spare buses, but there's no way they could be relied upon to provide regular service when emergency rail replacement could run at any time (assuming this is part of why they were acquired - I don't think I've seen any replacements run during any of the semi-recent QR fails), and...

Re: Brisbane City Council bus driver apologises in court after death of young cyclist
The only way this will improve is proper segregation of cyclists from motorists (and pedestrians), or where it is absolutely essential cycle paths intersect roads, that additional priority measures are given to them, which should alleviate some of the reckless behaviour we witness (including with pe...

Re: 200 new Rail Replacment Buses
They seem to do the bulk of rail work presently - I wonder if they'll get the majority of these buses (i.e. they have the rail contract and presently subcontract out?), or if it's planned to spread the buses out?

Re: Timetable Changes 2024,
It seems like extraordinarily poor form to spring changes on the public with only a week's notice; even if they're not monumental, it just seems common courtesy to give plenty of advance notice.

A third permanent latform will be constructed now that the new P2 is operational, which will alleviate the queues for good, hopefully.

Re: ex-State Transit Vehicle Transmissions
I only watched the bit mentioned, without headphones, although the bus' more pronounced notes came through quite clearly, and what a sound that was! I need to re-watch that in its entirety with a good headset. Wonder how a Voith persuaded (probably manually) into 1st would compare? Would be great to...

Re: Traffic Lights with short cycle
"Bus priority" in this country usually seems to mean some silly B-light slotted in before or after the main phase of traffic in that general direction, as opposed to the presence of a bus resulting in additional B-light phases, or even shortened phases for the other cycles.

Re: ex-State Transit Vehicle Transmissions
First in a Voith, by the admission of their own literature, is designed to get the engine into its optimum power & torque zone quickly, and when on a grade, hold it in that area to make hill climbs easier.
If they don't want their buses thrashed, perhaps a more realistic timetable should be set?

Re: ex-State Transit Vehicle Transmissions
You have to wonder what on earth Volvo were thinking making a City bus (the B12) with that sort of (truck / coach) engine, to then go and pair it with a Voith with it's large gaps between each gear, that keeps the bus out of its peak power / torque zone ... the mind boggles. They do drive smoothly, ...

Re: Transport for Brisbane- Routes by Depot
With UQ Lakes seemingly back to normal, guess the 66 will no longer be a loop and G can help out there again - although with how many tags G lost to S at the start of the year, I wonder if they'll lose trips on other tag/artic routes as a result?

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes 2024
Bit pathetic that people are forced to wait 1hr bus service in 2024. And the government wonders why people drive their cars around. It could be more frequent, but I'm not sure that it's justified by patronage outside peak hour Not sure... The few 42s I've been on outside of peak hour or leading int...

Re: Transport for Brisbane Observations 2024
Some of what shows up on rail has definitely seen happier days, although the economics of purchasing so many buses to have them waiting for something to go wrong, is not great. These buses will be leased to regular route operators when the rail replacement service is not required. That doesn't add ...

Re: Transport for Brisbane Observations 2024
Add to that, the lack of Lord Mayor, presence of other Councillors or the RTBU (at least from the information given) at the press conference would tend to indicate this doesn't involve TfB.
