Re: Boarding protocols

sure its crowded and has its other challenges, but it beats hands down any infrequent bus winding its way down every back street that only operates when the sun is up :D This is definitely the bit that astounds me - that even Blind Freddy could see that "if you build it, they will come", ...

Re: Boarding protocols

The one thing that puzzles me with all door loading, are the people who will queue up for the single-leaf back door, as a dozen or more people slowly tricky out, while the front door, and front area of the bus has plenty of vacant space. I like the back seats too, but not that much that I'll hold up...

Re: Go cards to be phased out in Queensland, replaced with Translink public transport fare pass

Presumably the idea is to be able to keep concession entitlements with a minimum of fuss, and for those who'd prefer to keep a separate card... With the frequency of glitches in ticketing equipment, I personally wouldn't like to use my own debit card(s) with it anyway. Any other business with such a...

Re: Boarding protocols

If only I get a $1 everytime you whine about low floor buses or all door boarding, I’ll be a rich man. I'd be several orders of magnitude richer by getting a $1 for every time anyone on a discussion board wheels out a topic of interest to them. Anyone who has ever posted on this (or any) ...

Of course it's paywalled, but the sensationalist headline about routes to be "axed" and "cut short" suggests it's not likely the article will be praising the revised network... Obviously you didn’t read the article, if you can’t see it better to keep quiet rather than make Ill-i...

Re: WA Transport General Discussion & Questions

For comparison, the 2021-22 budget added 3.8 million annual service kilometres for the Airport, Yanchep, Thornlie and Lakelands projects combined, with the Airport line itself using up 1.7 million of that. So either the Ellenbrook line is going to see a better level of feeder bus service than we've...

Re: Bus Observations 2024.

However, as the only bus factory in Western Australia is Volgren Malaga, buying buses that come from Adelaide or Western Sydney doesn't make much sense. Brisbane Transport, however, seem to have gone for Volgren too, despite there being a Bustech factory in QLD as well - I believe such a choice wou...

Re: Bus Observations 2024.

Do operators that hold TransPerth bus contract have any say on what buses they order or does TransPerth tell the operators we are ordering a batch of 600 Volvos and we will say how many buses each depot receives. I know Transport For NSW allows the contract holding operator to select what buses the...

At least it's only a temporary pain until the new P3 opens at Cultural Centre, and a through-lane to West End is restored (although this will involve a separate light phase at Cultural Centre as the Busway services will have to cross sides of the road here...).

My educated guess would be that perhaps some additional B-sets have been rotated off-traffic for maintenance during the reduced demand period, and A-sets cascaded across to make up for the lost stock.

They might be useful spare buses, but there's no way they could be relied upon to provide regular service when emergency rail replacement could run at any time (assuming this is part of why they were acquired - I don't think I've seen any replacements run during any of the semi-recent QR fails), and...

The only way this will improve is proper segregation of cyclists from motorists (and pedestrians), or where it is absolutely essential cycle paths intersect roads, that additional priority measures are given to them, which should alleviate some of the reckless behaviour we witness (including with pe...
