Re: Putting CSELR in George Street Sydney

So you think it would be good to dig up half of Melbourne CBD? Swanston Street is not "half". Your point is irrelevant in any case. The tunnel is not to relieve capacity on the tram routes other than as a coincidence. The point is to expand inner city rail capacity for outer suburban train lines by...

Re: Light Rail Implementation 2013/4 _MLR Extension

Spoke to a light rail cashier today who mentioned there were only two Variotrams left, and they were expected to be removed by the end of May. She also indicated that soon the cashiers would be trained similar to transport officers and would have the authority to issue fines. I don't know if that p...

Re: Bt Observations April 2015

Unfortunately the layout of these buses is anything but modern. 1,200 buses and only 8 of them (the K310s) have 2 decent sized unobstructed stepless doors. Over 1,000 buses with only an 800mm wide side door which only one person can go through at a time, causing enormous delays with loading and unlo...

Re: Putting CSELR in George Street Sydney

Every time somebody refutes his arguments about capacities (blogs, SSC etc) he runs off with his tail between his legs and never comes back. It's tiresome.

Who cares? It is better engineered than most of what they will have ever encountered, because it has to be.

Probably takes more electricity to generate the hydrogen than it would to just run the motors.

Re: $2.5b Light rail vs $1.25b BRT for Northern Corridor

Unless you are going to have dedicated infrastructure that separates vehicles from as much normal traffic (both through traffic and cross-streets) as possible there is little point building anything beyond the existing bus routes through that area IMO. Also, it would be good to see where the govern...

It could just charge you a minimum fare which is credited to your travel. If you are skiving by not actually going anywhere on public transport, you just get pinged for it. Easy.

Re: BT Scanias

Is there really that much of a market for 10-15 year old CNG route buses? The only obvious purchasers jumping out at me would be Torrens, Transfield sand or the SA government, so they can retire some of their remaining high floor MANs more quickly.

Re: Public transport projects to be cancelled

^ BaT is dead because the ALP have also said they refuse to proceed with it and intend to pursue the original Cross River Rail proposal the LNP canned. Based on what I have seen CRR should in fact be cheaper now than what BaT ended up costing. There's certainly no need to inflate the project cost by...

Re: Competitive Tendering Qld Buses

Tendering is pretty much dead. Pity. BT will of course have the screws put to it big time when it comes to renegotiating their contract. The kind of waste that exists in their network simply cannot continue. I think the best solution now would be to take the buses off council and give them directly ...

Re: Transit Australia Group Fleet Changes (Surfside/Sunbus)

All of 377, 378 and 379 have now entered service (I am guessing at Tweed).

376-379 appear to be completely devoid of TransLink decals, some have Surfside decals on the roofline at the front in the usual spot.

Re: Busways Fleet changes

Why are the Busways fleetlists so difficult to navigate? Is this a legacy of certain of their operations' previous proprietors, or something they have asked for? If the information is all there I see little reason why it should be squirrelled away like nobody else's.

Re: Use of Back Door on Buses

I'm quite interested to explore what it would take to get a dialogue going between the various national bus jurisdictions and the industry regarding the trial and progressive introduction of multi-door, all-door loading citybuses in Australia. It raises a number of questions, including: 1. Is there...
