Re: Rail Observations 2023

It suggests in some places, in the English language, nice and clearly, that there is an official contingency plan in place which is disclosed in an transparent way and published publicly in a manner that is detailed, in order and precise. I was trying to shed some light on whether Transport NSW had...

Re: Faster Trains to link Canberra and Sydney

As the federal government misjudged the public with the yes vote we should have a referendum on if we want to spend heaps on a nuclear submarine or invest that money on connecting Sydney to Melbourne via Canberra and Albury The federal government doesn't need to change the constitution in order to ...

Re: Regional Bus Contracts

I’ve heard from family friends that many Mount Gambier residents simply drive to Warrnambool and catch a V Line train to Melbourne, instead of a coach to Adelaide. Cheaper, similar time, and a bigger city at the end. Which suggests any investment in regional links would be greatly welcomed by resid...

Re: Rail Observations 2023

If we had the Melbourne train contract in Sydney, Sydney Trains would be giving its passengers fare refunds every second week. It's difficult to directly compare the on-time performance for the two networks because the statistics provided for the Melbourne suburban network are based on all services...

Re: Gov't Inquiry - Western Sydney Public Transport

I agree that it's not immediately obvious in either of the instances referred to above, but commonly a distinction is made between Western Sydney, the area comprising the WSROC group of LGAs, or Greater Western Sydney, that includes the MACROC group of councils as well. With the continuing spread o...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements

It's a pity that rail buses are only operating on Saturdays during the day, as the punctuality of the service is absolutely shot at the moment due to the number of speed restrictions on the track. Yesterday I travelled on an AM peak train which was 17 minutes late by the time it reached Macarthur, p...

Re: Bus Observations 2023

Routes 155, 156 and 182 appear to only be operating a handful of trips today according to Tripview and Anytrip, although the PDF timetables suggest these routes should be operating at 30-60 minute headways all day on a Sunday, which they were still doing a month ago. The last inbound 156 from McCarr...

Re: Bus service cuts in 2023 timetables

The final hour of trips on most routes seem to have been deleted on weekdays, which is quite disappointing, albeit buses still run late on Saturday nights, but not Friday nights. Light rail continues to operate until 1:00am on Friday and Saturday nights, meaning the last service to Gungahlin is more...

Re: COVID-19 Face mask rules public transport and indoor locations

This country is (apparently) a democracy, and the view of the vast majority of the population is that they don't want to keep unpleasant regulations such as mask mandates indefinitely.

Unless there is some new super-variant that also triggers a lockdown, the mandate isn't coming back.

Re: Least frequent bus service in Australia or New Zealand

Route 697F in Melbourne is a good contender for an outer urban service, which provides a once weekly direct service on Thursdays only from Belgrave Station to Westfield Fountain Gate, taking 25 minutes. It actually would be quite a useful service if it ran more often, as the fastest alternative rout...

I can't take that survey seriously for as long as they list QR above both the Sydney & Melbourne networks for "Timetable/scheduling". Unless people actually prefer waiting 30 minutes between services.

Re: Railway Observations for 2022.

The full weekday timetable on the Southern Highlands line has resumed operating from today, for the first time in 5.5 months. This means there are no longer any two hour gaps between some services (e.g. between 12pm and 2pm from Moss Vale) when normally an hourly service would be operating. Now if o...

I find it bewildering that on the Endeavour trains people will still attempt to exit from the door that faces the guards / drivers section despite a big paper sign being plastered on both doors saying passengers are required to exit from the Middle doors only. It's only a sign, and there's nothing ...

Jeepers. A complete overreaction. Other cities, such as Darwin, have not had their front seats taped off since mid last year. Nor have they had any cashless nonsense either - by nonsense I mean it contrary to practically all the health advice on the planet that says COVID is AIRBORNE, not generally...

If they're so concerned about face masks, they should try enforcing that rule with school children, who don't practice social distancing at all, spend all day long in one of the highest risk environments, and rarely seem to wear masks on trains or buses in many parts of Sydney. The only times that I...
