R.I.P. Firefly Denning Landseer Double Deckers

Post by gen man »

Yes, that's right, you read the title correct, I received news this morning that the last 2 Denning Deckers have been sold from Firefly ((34) & (50)) and are due to leave forever, by the end of next week! The end of an era, has unfortunately arrived, and personally I'll be sad to see them go, but after 22 yrs, I suppose it was always going to happen one day. :(

Don't worry gen man. They were built so well, you can be assured they'll be around somewhere in OZ for many years to come with other operators. They may be 22yrs old, but they still look AND go better than a lot of what's built nowdays. Fuel in the big V8GM is the only killer

Some have put in GM Series 60s to replace the 8v92s. It's a fair bit of work getting it in though.

We have bought 3 of them, and they are not resting in peace, built so well they are doing over 700km daily in the NT & one will be doing over 1200km per day. All without an issue, there has not been an on road failure with the first two in the last 11 months.

Great to hear, and not suprising at all, as they were definitely built here for our extreme conditions & built to last, unlike all the cheap imports that are now unfortunately flooding our shores, and definitely won't be in one piece after 22 yrs. Unfortunately I missed your two original Denning deckers when I was up in Darwin on holidays last September, however I did manage a photo of the Austral during morning pickups in The Esplande in Darwin.

Thanks for psoting your pics escapes. It's good to know these fine vehicles will be used for what they were made for .... and be looked after while they're at it!
