Found out about this today, what are people's thoughts and opinions on it? Originally I thought "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", but after doing a very small amount of research I think it's pretty cool. Will be interesting to see how long the old ones hang around, a LONG time I would have thought.

Re: New $5 Note
No good. Poker machines won't accept it, and can't without a large amount of hardware being replaced.

Re: New $5 Note
I don't use the pokies. So I don't see the problem .
Re: New $5 Note
Self serve checkouts won't accept it (but the staff will manually override it i think). I wonder if there have been any major incidents where shopkeepers think it's some foreign currency or something.

I was talking to a machine product restocker from a vending machine company at Blacktown about a hour ago and he told me that they are in the process of reprogramming the note slot on all vending machines that are owned by that company to except the new $5 notes

Re: New $5 Note
I've heard they're getting rid of the new $5 note now becuase it doesn't work in so many things. My source: A friend who recently got a job at K-Mart (my way of saying it's not a very reliable source).

Yeah, there's very little chance of that happening. They didn't withdraw the first polymer notes just because they didn't work with note counting machines.

Re: New $5 Note
I've seen a few places suggesting the people with the new notes take them to a cashier and exchange them for old ones.

Re: New $5 Note
I put one in a poker machine the other day in Crown Casino. Also received one from the change machine. TAB Easybet terminals also accept them these days (at the time of this original post, they did not). Pokies used to have trouble with the off-colour 1992 "AA" $5 notes and the 2001 Federation $5 notes as well back in the day. This year the new $10 note will come out, so they will definitely need to make sure note acceptors are updated.
