It's a shame these sorts of brochures aren't produced anymore, particularly to advertise the improvement of services in a given area to people who are not already existing patrons, as the information disseminated about public transport in various cities is usually just preaching to the converted; there is little-no effort to reach out to the community beyond social media pages one has to actively seek out.

Was something like this mailed out to the areas affected or kept only at information kiosks?

Nice to see the enthuistist scene (possibly) so big at the time in the Hunter & back when ex & current state government Double Deckers still roamed the streets. In the time since then a lot has vastly changed, no more double deckers in the Hunter Valley (Excluding Charter & Hire), the enthusiast scene in Newcastle is... not what it once was (I've met more gunzels in Sydney than I have in Newcastle) and of course the biggest one in the room, State Transit Authority Newcastle is no more except a growing distant memory preserved by Former buses & assets as we see here (including photos & other media).

Yikes! If the people in that photo are still around, I think they'd be horrified at some of the scene of things today.

Many, if not most, of them are from Sydney. I suspect it may be the last days of decker operations in Newcastle, 1975.

2769 is now in the MAAS/Powerhouse collection.

I think I recognise one or two there and one of them is too old for it to be 1975. More likely 1982 which is listed in the credits at the end of the article.
Is it likely though, that they would have driven this rather slow double decker on a round trip to Newcastle for a commemoration 6 years after it's transfer to Sydney, unless they made stops along the way and perhaps stayed at motels overnight? Just getting there and back would take half the day.

I think the photo was taken was taken in 1975 when the bus was transferred to Sydney, as it's replacement was a Leopard,a group travelled from Sydney in the Leopard and returned to Sydney in the decker

If you look at the photographs included in the link, 2769 is carrying a sign reading "Last DGT double decker bus in Newcastle 24 May 1975".

This ties in with LB608's assumption that it was shortly after that date. Other photos in that collection show it running out of Burwood at a later time.

Note also from the description
"No.2769 was the last double decker bus used by the PTC in Newcastle and made a special farewell trip through that City's main streets on 24th May, 1975. At the conclusion of this journey it was driven to Sydney and carried a bus load of interested transport enthusiasts. On its return to Sydney it was placed into service at Burwood Deport" and "The bus was withdrawn from service in March 1976 (due to a water leak from the engine cooling system)"
