Sorry to back track...
but in regards to new network consultation, it no longer occurs in NSW.
TfNSW just says "here is the new network", with route changes explained a month or so prior, and actual timetables given 2 weeks in advance.
I think there is some recognition that network consultation can lead to certain groups' interest being over-emphasized, plus the usual issue of only hearing about the negatives and not the positives. Network changes are also based very much on current travel patterns from the Opal ticketing data, so impacts can be predicted and accounted for in the planning process.

Sadly the Metrocard system only requires passengers to touch on; so the detailed travel pattern data available from a tap on/touch off system is not available.

Re: January 2021 timetable changes
Are door counters able to identify where the disembarkment is occurring?
Re: January 2021 timetable changes
We don't have door counters on our buses.
Re: January 2021 timetable changes
Yes, that lack of data must be very frustrating for planning purposes!
It is theoretically possible to model travel patterns of regular travellers by pairing where they board in the morning and where they board in the afternoon, presuming they do the same trip from home to work or school and then back again.
Re: January 2021 timetable changes
The metrocard system also doesn't log history for users of 14 and 28 day passes. The entire system is flawed, but replacing it will obviously not be a government priority. I could also see tapping off being hard to get people to do.

Re: January 2021 timetable changes
Speaking to a driver from Lonsdale the other day, and they were saying that they got many passengers complaining that the bus was late on Australia Day. These timetable changes have not been well advertised.
Also, for Gunzels..... if you have never caught a 683 before, it has now been made a little "easier" on weekends. The service to Hallett Cove South leaves Hallett Cove Beach Station at x:47 and arrives at the terminus at x:55. The return bus to Hallett Cove leaves at x:54. Just keep an eye on the clock so you are not waiting 2 hours for a return bus. Though, most services on weekends are on full sized buses.

You would be lucky if you even seen 1 passenger on any of the 683 services
