Ventura currently have an Iveco/Optimus Demonstrator unit. Travelled yesterday on Rail replacement, still with new bus smell.

Impeccable timing I'd say. A few Mercedes O405NH Volgrens are on the brink of reaching 2 decades old at Moorabbin and Pakenham. Their replacement could be a fleet of Optimus bodied Ivecos. Moorabbin's 546, turning 20 next year, would be the first to go I'd assume.

20 years is only old if the vehicle is worn out and beyond repair. I have ridden in a number of Ventura's CR221Ls and early Northcoasts which still look beautiful inside and run like new yet they're due for retirement just because of the model year, although I'm sure the non-air conditioned part of the fleet won't be missed by the travelling public. At least 546 has air conditioning unlike most of the Scania buses of that era.

It's a pity that rebodying or even refurbishing buses is so expensive these days, as usually they are mechanically fine but just look old - the ex-Met Volvo B59s that were sold off and rebodied look infinitely newer despite being 1970s buses. The bus in this photo of what used to be 862 does not look like a 1970s model all, it even has air conditioning installed which wasn't even thought of in Melbourne for at least ten years after the bus was built.

Today I spotted Ventura #963 with a new white LED desto. Spotted running rail replacement for the Level Crossing Removal project on the Hurstbridge line.

Kind regards, JRBUS123

These 3 Optare Tempo's are for Ventura and will be used for school runs. They have an unusual layout 3 seats o/s and 2 seats n/s similar to those L94 customs with the single door.

Are those ones still running on route service? I remember that they often used to run on the 270/271 going back to the start of this decade, in the "good old days" when Ventura Croydon used to operate those services.

I would imagine, being in PTV livery, they (870-872) would do some route service and PTV school services, probably mainly PTV school runs, due to their configuration.

Yes, it was the good old days back in 2010, when some nice buses got on the 270-271. Then three years later.........

First time in ages I can remember high floors being out on rail duties on the weekend - single doors too. Noted at least 471 Volvo B10M/Volgren and 518 Volvo B10B/Volgren doing Caulfield - westall expresses. Also notable quite a number of blue scanias were still out running rail around 1am this morning, rather than the usual CR28Ls and optimus.

Heard today from another board member that in Mordialloc this afternoon, all of the rail buses they saw were from CDC Melbourne and Transdev..

Noticed an Optare Solo running a northbound route 887 trip to Frankston along the Esplanade between Safety Beach and Mount Martha at 3:30pm today.

Didn't see the fleet number as I was driving at the time.

Do you just read the live tracking on their website to find this out?

The live tracking is extremely accurate... so, depending on the route, the tracking may give you the answers you are looking for.
#1270 was on the Monash run again today.

That being said, Route 886 normally runs with a standard size bus between first bus and the 18:15 Monash departure.
An Optare is usually allocated on the last service from Monash Frankston to Rosebud at 19:06.

Cheers.

I have noticed there seems to have been a mass exchange of buses between Lilydale and Oakleigh in recent weeks.

eg today I sighted #1027 Volvo on the 664 and #767 Scania quite coincidentally on the 767, plus numerous others.

It appears that Ventura drivers are running driver training on Seaford Road, as of yesterday. Perhaps this is for the opening of route 760?

Ventura seem to have pulled just about everything out today for this weekends massive shutdown from South Yarra to Frankston. Noted various Volgren SC222'S and at least 1 Scania 3 axle coach lurking about.
