I think that is the special code (i think its 3071) that you enter into the desto controller to show the file version on the bus.Mercedes3035 wrote:Over the last few days, I've noticed two different T buses have a desto that reads something like "Dest file..." with numbers and a code.

STA Observations - January to June 2018
Caught L’s 1129 at 15:57 on Monday, on an Art Gallery to Birchgrove 441 service at the Andrew Boy Charlton Pool, the route’s origin. Driver had a bit of trouble starting the bus a few times, which had us thinking it was dead, until he finally got the bus up and running.

Temporary ferry wharf upgrade service route 437 returned last Wednesday and will be around for approximately 4 x months as Abbotsford Whf is now closed for an upgrade, last year it was Chiswick Whf that received the upgrade that required temporary route 437.

Today I had the bad luck to get two old, non-wheelchair accessible Scania’s, the low floor ones. One on 343 and the other on 400. Air conditioning was completely broken on both buses, making the inside of the bus a greenhouse, I’m not surprised though, they’re pretty much end of life now right?
These buses need to go. ASAP. But thankfully on the positive side, they’re rare and seemingly only make an appearance during weekday peak hours

Re: STA Observations - January to June 2018
Their days are numbered (hopefully). They must be there to make up the numbers for peak hour. The sooner these annoying things are removed the better, but shouldn't the gas Scanias be eradicated first followed by the 14.5s? These second rate low entries should immediately be used to eradicate all remaining gas Scanias. Not all depots have gas but all gas depots have diesel.Jurassic_Joke wrote:

The newest CRLs turn 20 this year. The (gas) CRBs are older, and the (14.5m) TRBs older again. The O405NHs are newer, but a few have gone recently, too. I think at the moment STA are simply getting rid of the particular vehicles they don't want.

Re: STA Observations - January to June 2018
The 0405NH "political buses" (bought for political reasons, not for merit) have had their numbers chopped due to (ironically) practical reasons to do with their fuel tanks, not age. The 14.5s have been kept so long because of their higher carrying capacity and there has been no alternative until recently, when 18m 1 1/2 door B12BLEAs were freed up because of the B -line MAN deckers.gld59 wrote:The newest CRLs turn 20 this year. There is no reason to keep any CRBs after withdrawal of the older batch non wheelchair CRLs.

The old Scania l113crl's at Randwick are falling apart but the the ones in kingsgrove are going well for there age. The wheelchair accessible ones still have along way to go yet before there withdrawn. its allways nice to see a old Scania low floor pull up on a 412 to Campsie it reminds me of the good old days of when all 100 Scania l113crb CNG buses were at kingsgrove.Jurassic_Joke wrote:Today I had the bad luck to get two old, non-wheelchair accessible Scania’s, the low floor ones. Re: STA Observations - January to June 2018
Yeah the one I had on the 343 was from Randwick, it did look quite worn on the interior - and acceleration was weak even on the quieter roads. Unfortunately I have a feeling because of the age of the bus, the air conditioning units won’t be repaired anymore. I mean they have character and that specific bus type is a novelty nowadays, but I just really think it isn’t a good idea to use them if possible on warmer sunnier days. In fact it got so bad, an elderly man asked the driver politely if he could switch on the cooling but said back he can’t do anything about it..joshurandazzo wrote:The old Scania l113crl's at Randwick are falling apart but the the ones in kingsgrove are going well for there age. The one I had on the 400 was from Kingsgrove, it did drive a bit better, but still had the sauna issue that time though, TIP - if you sit right opposite the rear doors you can usually feel a breeze of wind from the flaps at the bottom of the door when the bus is moving, and that sure helped out a good bit.
The wheelchair accessible variant however i see all the time as it’s a common sight in Newtown and those ones don’t seem to have (major) issues with air conditioning so I’m always happy to travel on one. Same with Volvo B10 APG Orana

Re: STA Observations - January to June 2018
It should be declared a crime to run a bus with no opening windows without a functioning A/C. The bus should be iced immediately. Passenger's health is being put at risk. It's all well and good for the driver who has the luxury of an opening window. I would be ropeable getting on a bus like that. At least Busways have provision on their A/C buses (or at least some) for opening windows.

Not quite the back of Bourke, but good enough. Are they able to legally drive them on public roads there? Good for them if they can get use out of the buggers.LB608 wrote:Swift would be happy about that, far away from Sydneyboronia wrote: Apparently "donated" by TfNSW to some community business venture in Bourke. With the takeover in July of STA inner west services by Transit Systems, what would be the fleet that they are taking over? Are they mostly volgrens or are there some others in there too?

Not sure if this is appropriate for this thread, but assuming all transfers to R6 have finished before July 1st, all buses at Burwood, Leichhardt, Kingsgrove and Tempe depots will be handed over. There's 587 buses operating out of R6 as of posting.Bjwh86 wrote:With the takeover in July of STA inner west services by Transit Systems, what would be the fleet that they are taking over? Re: STA Observations - January to June 2018
I think the bigger question for us here on ATDB to ask is: where are we going to discuss Region 6 happenings after 1/7/18? Here in these long running STA threads or the Private Observations threadBjwh86 wrote:With the takeover in July of STA inner west services by Transit Systems, what would be the fleet that they are taking over? The "privatisation/franchising" thread already seems dedicated to Region 6, so Perhaps rename it as "Region 6" thread, and continue the theme.
That way all the discussion can be focused together
