Re: Wulkuraka Maintenance Centre
Geez, this NGR thing is taking forever!!!
I'd post any important, bus-related links I had, but they're outdated anyways.

Re: Wulkuraka Maintenance Centre
I understand that, Swift. It's just, why get these done in India when they can be done in Maryborough? What happened with being local here?Swift wrote:^ Exactly my point but some don't want to acknowledge this elephant.

Re: Wulkuraka Maintenance Centre
Why not give the Indians some work if it results in a good product? It beats donating to a charity where only 14% goes to the cause. At least we get a train out of it.

Re: Wulkuraka Maintenance Centre
Any idea how many sets are going into service?
Re: Wulkuraka Maintenance Centre
1st one Monday 11 Dec from Varsity Lakes 6.25am according to Translink. I ve heard 4 sets somewhere but not sure if this is correct.
Re: Wulkuraka Maintenance Centre
The first NGR train (704) in passenger service made the trip from Varsity Lakes at 6.25am and arrived at Roma Street (filmed by several TV stations) on Platform 6. Translink were offering promotional material, cardboard cut-out models of the NGR train and Go card wallets decorated with images of 706 and refreshments. The train continued on to the Airport. On the return journey it terminated at Park Road.
NGR 708 and 713 were in the stabling yard at Bowen Hills as we passed in NGR 704 towards the Airport. NGR 713 was seen at Ipswich station at 11.35am.
The ride in NGR 704 was smooth and quiet and the air con was louder than the traction motors. The contactor? is loud like the EMUs when the current cuts out. The seats lack the deeper cushions of the SMUs but have more leg room. In the transverse seating cars the isles seem wide enough and if they were any wider, unless converted to longitudinal seating, the seats would have to be narrowed. The toilet compartment is as spacious as in the SMU trains.
The station announcement system is visual AND audio and has scrolling displays like the SMU units. The VDU screens in the carriages show various features of the NGR trains, train etiquette and a diagram of the Gold Coast G tram system, ending at Helensvale. The train guard also makes announcements.
Signs showing permitted and prohibited activities while on the train are displayed by the door.

Any more progress with NGR's going in to service or still testing at this stage.
Re: Wulkuraka Maintenance Centre
I have only seen 704,705, 706 and 708, on the Gold Coast /Airport line where they have been running in service since 11 December. They regularly return to the WMC usually via the Tennyson loop. 4 other units have been moved to Progress rail.
