NSW Railway Observations - October 2017

Okay, I saw an OSCAR a day or two ago. First time I've seen it, must be recent. The entire bottom deck, all 4 cars, were plastered in a hideous, vision-obscuring advertisement.

DELAYED IN SERVICE
My City-Blacktown service was held on the down main at Petersham on 7.10.17 from 1437 to 1456 while trackwork was in progress on the local lines. Delayed nineteen minutes! Is this a record?

When I came through today, both suburban and the down main lines were occupied by track workers. The Up main appeared to be open, but I didn't see any trains on it. A lot of activity between Mac'town and Flemington. A lot of workers were noticed around Homebush platforms and trackside.
At Central, passengers for T2 between Merrylands and Cabramatta were told to go to parramatta and change for a Cumberland line service.
At Olympic Park, I saw a loaded train go through without stopping. Another trackwork deviation?

Another nice touch was a cleaner going through the train between Central and TH, picking up rubbish.

They have cleaners that join City Circle trains at Central and get off when it gets back to Central again.

No points failed at Lidcombe so train diverted to keep it going.

Might have been the train with a mechanical issue. Not related to trackwork.

Suburban and Local are out of action this weekend between Strathfield and the Central Flying Junctions, only the Main is open. Inner West line is replaced by buses and I think I saw Campbelltown services going to Blacktown instead.

Suburban tracks were in use between Central and Macdonaldtown cross overs. Campbelltown trains ran Redfern, Strathfield, Flemington, Lidcombe, Auburn, Granville, Parra, Blacktown; with Cumberland services from Parra.

Derailment at Narromine, NSW on 1st October.

11 grain wagons derailed. Looks quite serious with the track looking quite damaged.

I was on waratah A01 between Liverpool and Glenfield this afternoon and heard the change at Glenfield for T8 Airport line DVA announcement would it be abit early for Sydney Trains to update the DVA announcements on waratahs

I was on another A set and yes it was asking passengers to change at Strathfield for T2 Inner West and Leppington (as opposed to T2 South Line)

One of the Tangara's has had nearly the whole of it's four carriages windows etched it was on the 8:31 to Waterfall from the Cross this evening and was the leading Unit

But then again, not being able to see out windows due to AOA doesn't faze these people, some scratching won't motivate them

The S Set at Petersham has been graffitied aswell

So Blue mountains trains divert down t3 tomorrow night but stop at central clyde and Parra? Clyde must surely be an error?

Would be to pick up/let off a pilot driver, as BMT crews may not be qualified for T3. Shouldn't need to be timetabled stop as such though

Western Line trains stop at Granville, Auburn then Redfern. BMT trains pick up the slack by picking up and setting down at Clyde.

Noticed in the past week, more and more advertisements are being put up on M sets. I've seen
- exterior ads between the windows
- upper deck ads above the windows
- lower deck ads on the top edge of the windows

Those adverts are okay. They're, as you pointed out, above the windows and dont really obstruct passengers view.

What is a huge problem and makes me as livid as an environmentalist seeing Woolies wrap fruit+veg in plastic, is how on the OSCARs as of this month, they're putting the same ad's you see on the buses, on both the entire top and bottom deck windows, significantly obscuring passenger view. That's an issue and unfortunately with complaints on this matter, I know it all goes in one ear out the other because they're making $$$$$$ on their end from it

Going OT but they generally only wrap the expensive/ macro fruit+veg to avoid customers doing substitution.
If youve seen how many egg substitutions occur, it would be even worse in fruit+veg

Clyde Station doesn't have lifts, but I noticed today that it does have those "chair on tracks" devices that fit on the rails/walls up the sides of stairs.

Are these fitted at any other stations?

I suspect that the only installation is at Clyde - I understand that it is not very reliable and it is very slow.

What do you mean by "Hurstville Line"? Oscars run to Wollongong and Kiama and pass through Hurstville which is on the T4 Illawarra/SCO line.

^ OSCARs also run T4 during peak hour, mainly Hurstville to BJ.

I meant the hurstville to bondi line was shocked the water fall express was tangara operated and yet the hurstville was Oscar..
