[July/Aug 2017] SA transport observations
Half of the year has gone past; and the new financial year is upon us... July is here! Don't forget to do your tax return; hope you get a nice refund!
A quick reminder that Metrocard and Metroticket fares increased as of Sunday 2 July. For details visit the Adelaide Metro website.
Works on the major projects at Darlington, Torrens to Torrens and Torrens Junction continue apace; closures on the Outer Harbor, Grange and Gawler Central lines have been announced for the weekend of 22/23 July 2017.
The diesel MAN SL202's have almost all been retired; make sure you get your last rides/videos/etc before they're all gone for good.
Changes in the conditional registration scheme for historic vehicles mean buses over 30 years of age are now available to register under the scheme. I hope this will see an increase in the number of historic buses riding our streets; a recent event at the National Railway Museum played host to five buses, all of which were well received.
Please post your South Australian transport observations that wouldn't seem to warrant their own thread here.

What were the fares before these changes? I never really look at my Metrocard when I scan it to be honest. Thanks

$1.94 between 9:01am and 3pm on weekdays and all day on Sundays and public holidays; $3.48 outside of those times.mmosca447 wrote:What were the fares before these changes? I never really look at my Metrocard when I scan it to be honest. Thanks

That one did show up on TransitTimes this morning. 426 also appeared again, despite being more than 25 years old according to the Fleet Lists.TT wrote:Correct, and 1958 in service today for first time.

426 was out on a 118 one afternoon last week but required assistance from a TT support vehicle in St Vincent St.Diesel_MAN wrote:That one did show up on TransitTimes this morning. 426 also appeared again, despite being more than 25 years old according to the Fleet Lists.TT wrote:Correct, and 1958 in service today for first time.
Re: [July/Aug 2017] SA transport observations
Just saw 2453 in action for the first time on an outbound 720
Re: [July/Aug 2017] SA transport observations
I also took a ride on 2211 on an outbound 720 today (13/7) and saw that almost every seat was a mixture of Scania blue fabric and the old tartan/red. Any reason why it would be like this?

Re: [July/Aug 2017] SA transport observations
Some of the original seats may have been damaged. I noticed these seat cover replacements in some of Port Depot's SL202s before they were retired, but it doesn't appear to be common yet.mmosca447 wrote:I also took a ride on 2211 on an outbound 720 today (13/7) and saw that almost every seat was a mixture of Scania blue fabric and the old tartan/red. Re: [July/Aug 2017] SA transport observations
No tartan fabric available anywhere so the upholsterers changed over to using the bright blue patterned Scania fabric. Several of the 400s ended up with a few random seats of it, especially the very rear seat. More due to the tartan fabric having worn thread bare than graffiti damage I believe.
Re: [July/Aug 2017] SA transport observations
Aren't the very rear seats usually red vinyl on the 400's and SL's? I could understand that needing to be replaced tooTT wrote:No tartan fabric available anywhere so the upholsterers changed over to using the bright blue patterned Scania fabric. The NLs and the midis have red vinyl in the rear half, with fabric in the front. The SL202s have tartan fabric or plain mid-blue all the way through. Unless there's a variation in some that I'm not aware of.
Re: [July/Aug 2017] SA transport observations
Ahh right, I guess that comes from not riding too many SL's living near most of Southlink's routesTT wrote:The NLs and the midis have red vinyl in the rear half, with fabric in the front. Scania have a fabric?TT wrote:... the bright blue patterned Scania fabric.
A lot of MAN buses had the blue fabric with coloured graffiti design before Adelaide's first Scania bus was introduced.

Was driving along Morphett Rd earlier and noticed 1676 with an RAA van broken down.

It was mmosca447 who referred to the fabric as blue Scania fabric, so I just ran with that so he knew what I was referring to.

Saw 1906 bus today and it is now sporting a "Precision Buses" sticker above the drivers window in lieu of the former Bustech signage.
