April 12 2017 Bus passengers travel for free as MyWay system down .
Lucky Canberra commuters got to travel for free on the city's ACTION buses on Wednesday, after the MyWay ticketing system went down.
A Transport Canberra and City Services spokesman said there was a system-wide error where all of their buses were unable to log into the MyWay system.
ACTION bus passengers got a free ride on Wednesday after the MyWay ticketing system went down.
This meant passengers could not tap on or off the bus.
"This issue was due to a data file error that occurred overnight," he said.
Transport Canberra's MyWay ticketing system.
"This file was working correctly in the test environment, but however failed in the live environment."
The outage sparked confusion among commuters, with even opposition leader Alistair Coe tweeting his frustration.
However the TCCS spokesman said no one has been adversely affected by this issue.
"Transport Canberra operated all scheduled services in order to ensure passengers were not affected," he said.
Commuters should not expect free travel on Thursday either.
The ticketing system is expected to be back and running after some major level tweaking.
"A solution has been identified which requires a patch to manually be installed on each MyWay ticking system on each bus.
"Transport Canberra are working to correct this issue as fast as we can. This will involve rotating all fleet through the workshops to receive the patch."
