It is fantastic to see Transperth improve these evening and weekend trips. The Fremantle, Midland, Joondalup and Mandurah Lines, routes 24, 100, 501, 518, 910, 970 and 998/999 have had additional off peak trips and/or frequency span extended significantly into the evening. The 501 from Bull Creek now extends the 15 min frequency for an additional two and half hours, and route 970 is certainly a far cry from the old hourly 354 on Saturday evenings, it will soon run 15 mins until 10pm!

The improvements are definitely great, particularly given evening services (especially Sundays!) have never had so much attention until recently...

Here's a snapshot of the evolution of Flinders St services over the past decade. Such a significant improvement from 10 years ago. Hopefully we continue to see strong patronage growth.

One of that thing that’s not mentioned from the Transperth website is can change the buses between Route 96 and 24/103 which travels to UWA and East Perth with stop at Thomas Street.

The withdrawal of the 16 doesn't come as a huge surprise. The last time I rode one (the 1717hrs 16F), there were less than ten aboard, and only two or three commuters stayed aboard after Dundas Road for a few extra stops. The areas serviced by the 16 have plenty of options nowadays as opposed to a service that wiggles around the better part of everywhere.

Extra 66s are a surprise, though. Given the high frequency of the 950 (plus other services along part of Beaufort Street), and if the powers that be support the existence of the 66 at this point in time... Wouldn't it make more sense to return the 66 to a true Express service? The time savings of the service are only realised for people making the full journey and connecting with feeders at Morley, anyway.

PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2019

Post by shinjiman »

Zidanehartono wrote:From Sunday 25 August there will be changes to a number of bus routes across the network.
Looks likely the route changes make Path and Swan swapping with each other with several areas in Bentley Central and Hayman Road area.

The frequency between Curtin University and Bentley Plaza had more frequent service by rerouting 34 from Manning Road to Chapman Road-Ashburton Street, in addition to the existing 201 services which was extend in a time before.

The withdrawal of route 16 will require patrons to board the other services like 360/361/362/960, 67/68, 60 which have more frequency for those routes to the designated area.

Timetable changes for 25 August 2019 was uploaded on Thursday, the map changes for route 66 is shown on the timetable on 1/9/2019.

Transperth website wrote: Routes 150 and 160 Service Change

Sun 15 Sep

From Sunday 15 September, routes 150 and 160 will undergo a minor route change. This change is due to relocation of the terminus on Terrace Rd in East Perth to the opposite side of the road.

Services travelling to East Perth will now service Stop 10135 (Adelaide Tce before Bennet St)

Services travelling from East Perth will no longer service Stop 10073 (Adelaide Tce after Bennet St).

The new terminus will be located at Stop 28001 (Terrace Rd before Hill St).
Just checked with the online timetable. The routes 150 and 160 is going to have the terminal changes from the north side of Terrace Road to the south side of Terrace Road from 15 September 2019.

The old route was from Adelaide Terrace, right Hill Street, left Terrace Road to the terminus, then along Terrace Road left Bennett Street, left Adelaide Terrace to resume the original route.

The new route is being run from Adelaide Terrace, right Bennett Street, right Terrace Road to the terminus, then right Hill Street, left Adelaide Terrace to resume the original route.

The stop 28001 (Terrace Road before Hill Street) is used instead of stop 16901 (Terrace Road after Burt Way), and stop 10073 (Adelaide Terrace after Bennett Street) is no longer serviced by these two routes.

It looks like they will be taking one step in that direction, with the 66 stop at Bulwer St removed in Timetable 106 effective 1/9/2019.

It was actually supposed to happen per the changes made a week ago. This and the correct deviation letters for the 67 & 68 were not included in Timetable 106. The new-new timetables rectify this issue.

Re the 160 terminus change, I'll be interested to see some of those gas OC's climbing the rise on Hill Street. I've struggled up there, on kickdown in a diesel bus!

While this isn't a change (moderators pls don't burn me at the stake), I realised a few days ago that the trial for the 354 that (commenced last August) has run over its twelve-month trial period, anyone heard any info on whether it's continuing or being withdrawn again?

It's still shown on the Bus Timetable 72, while those services from Mirrabooka Bus Station will departs 10 minutes later and 4 minutes later from Flinders Square.

Unlike most trial services in the past, I believe this one was instated as an election commitment when WA Labor came into office. Given it is still in the updated timetable for 13 Oct, I presume it is continuing for the time being. It will likely face higher scrutiny by the state government and prove challenging to remove unless there's clear evidence of lacklustre performance.

Wow so many service cancellations patronage can’t really be that bad?

Good to see they are finally implementing Sunday 402 services and reducing 404 services, hopefully down the track the 404 will be withdrawn completely with additional trips given to the 402.

That's what it is with record-high satisfaction rates. The most satisfied people will stay on and push to use public transport, making overall rating higher, but the less-satisfied patrons leave the PT scene, also making PT ratings higher.
I'd post any important, bus-related links I had, but they're outdated anyways.

They've removed a few trips or deviations on specific trips that aren't worth operating (that waste everyone else's time). Most of the services are seeing improvements in other areas (such as weekend and night services, plus extra short-working trips).
None of it seems particularly drastic to me; the changes here are similar to a lot of this year's changes where there's been a lot of effort to tinker with services, and improve services with the limited resources they have to do so. With patronage no longer slumping, these ongoing changes are presumably striking the right note with the general public.

Better still, unlike previous changes, it's not so much a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul like it often is but reinvesting within the same route or corridor itself on different days/times to better meet demand on particular routes/corridors. E.g. Removing 930 short workings and using that to provide a 10 min frequency the entire length to Thornlie as well as later Sat/Sun services which might encourage greater mode shift. Likewise with 990. With already pretty decent frequencies on 930/990, those changes have minimal noticeable impact on passengers but allow an improvement to span of hours on weekends which is often a point of criticism for convenience of public transport. All about striking the right balance with frequency to meet and stimulate demand while providing attractive operating hours to encourage greater use.
