renault pr 100 or 180

Post by nigel »

Hi there , Fairly new to buses in general and would like to know if anyone out there can tell me if it is possible and practical to gear up one of these articulated buses to do 100kmh??

Or should I be looking at a different make of bus?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Don't get a renault as the pr180s as they don't like high speed running and it is hard to source parts for the pr 100s and 180s them unless you buy two buses and use one for parts.
I reckon your best bet is one in the 1106 - 1114 batch of mercedes 0405s (which only 1109 1110 111 and 1113 are available) which are easier to source parts for and can run at higher speeds.

They are sold at Smith Broughton auctions (website: http://www.smithbroughton.com.au) on Clayton street Midland and prices vary from $1500 to $3500.

I hope this helps you. :D
0405's are awesome!!

Looking at my Renualt manuals I think change of Gearbox would do the trick but a manual one would be best

1109, 1110, 1111, 1113 & 1114 are still in service down south primarily on school runs.

A diff ratio change would do the job. Just remember there are two to change in a Renault artic.

I think the startability compromise would be noticeable once you start messing with diff ratios on those. Most are very tired and struggle off the mark even with the standard diff ratios that they were fitted with from the factory...

Go on the S&B Auction site and it should give you a list of buses up for sale or auction in the upcoming auction.

Do you require a Manual in English. Manual has three models

They can't be sold off as they run on CNG unless PATH converts them to diesel, which is unlikely.

I already have an extensive collection of manuals, both in hard copy and electronic forms. All obtained via official channels.

Is there some law that would prevent a private operator from buying and operating a CNG powered bus or is it simply a matter of the high cost for a private operator to install the necessary gear to be able to refuel CNG buses?

More than likely high cost of installing and maintaining CNG refuelling facilities, there aren't any privately owned depots that facilitate CNG refuelling that I'm aware of in Western Australia, but the buses make very good parts sources once withdrawn.

Renault diffs are OEM. There's only one speed. The question was examined extensively before the first PR100.2s went regional.
