Commuters will be able to track their Transperth bus.
A high-tech system that allows commuters to track the real-time movements of their bus - and know when it is due to arrive at their bus stop - will be rolled out across the Transperth fleet next year.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder will today announce that a $17 million contract to install the technology in 1300 buses has been awarded to Downer EDI Engineering Power.
The Real Time Tracking System will allow passengers to track their bus on the Transperth website or app.
"You will be able to look at your smartphone, your tablet or your work PC to determine the exact location of your bus, rather than referring to a timetable," Mr Nalder said.
Transperth has already tested the technology in 130 buses out of the Karrinyup depot.
The success of the trial has prompted the decision to roll out the system to the entire fleet.
The Public Transport Authority previously worked with Downer in the successful rollout of the SmartRider ticketing system from 2005.
"SmartRider is widely viewed across industry as the best cashless ticketing system in the country," Mr Nalder said.

Re: PTA/Transperth Bus Observations - April 2014
I saw a CanningVale reno out late last night around about 11pm heading back to the depot. Surely they wouldn't leave the reno's out that late? especially at that time of night when there are plenty of other low floors in the depot...

Re: PTA/Transperth Bus Observations - April 2014

2001's still in service, 1352 only runs after 6PM because 2001 doesn't have a cage, I rode in 2001 yesterday morning,
also saw 1655 the other day testing out the new bus tunnel.

Butler station to open in September
Butler Station construction complete
Thursday, 17 April 2014
Butler Extension Project to be delivered early and under budget
Work continues to connect the Butler extension to the Joondalup Line
A major milestone in the Liberal National Government’s Butler Extension Project has been achieved, with the rail station now complete.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the station would open in September for passenger use, once the signalling, overhead wiring and technical works were completed.
Mr Nalder said the Butler Extension Project would come in $20million inside the budgeted $241million, and would open about three months early.
“We are working hard to deliver this project ahead of schedule, hopefully in time for the September school holidays.”
The station features CCTV cameras linked to the PTA’s high-tech Central Monitoring Room, digital display boards, extensive landscaping, and public art.
The State Government will provide 11 new buses to provide feeder services, 900 car bays and a route called a principal shared pathway so passengers can walk or cycle to and from the station.
The PTA will begin testing trains along the extension later this year.
Fact File
About 2,000 passengers a day are expected to use the new station and bus interchange
The line extension requires 41,600 tonnes of ballast, 1,870 tonnes of rail and 28,100 concrete sleepers
Originally to be completed end of 2014, the station will open around three months early
Exact date of opening to be advised soon

Is it possible to put those article posts elsewhere? Either as a new topic (as it will probably generate some discussion not suited to here) or existing topics (which already exist for discussion related to the articles above). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought this thread has always been about "unusual" or interesting bus observations that occur, not just general bus news?

1352 has replaced 2001 as the Midland shuttle bus, the ETIM has been removed and the TransPerth logo is noticeably missing from the refurb

Jase, you do realise there is no point for it to go to Sydney. It'd be as ridiculous as sending it to London!
Cheers!
