Ansair Orana buses and rust issues

Post by keiranlusk »

Hi all. I've heard a lot over the years about rust issues with the Ansair Orana bodies of the early 90s. I drove a few of these 15 years ago at Surfside too. Now we're looking to buy one for our family's motorhome project. It's a 1993 Ansair Orana (on Hino RG197 chassis). It looks quite tidy. It's the school/charter body, with underfloor storage bins. The sides were reskinned by Custom Coaches 7 years ago, the rust treated and the side panels (from windows down) replaced with aluminium panels. I'm worried that there might be more rust hidden and yet to be discovered in the frame under the fibreglass roof or at front or rear of bus. Does anyone know if the rust issues in these buses were confined to side panels (ie water ingress under windows) or a result of inferior steel used in whole of bus body? Has anyone had experience with full frame inspections on these bus bodies?
