1936 Titan double decker

Hi, my names Keith, I live on the Capricorn coast and used to drive double deckers for Maidstone & District Bus co in Rochester, Kent in the early 70's. I thought i'd share pictures of my running 1936 Titan double decker bus that i've owned for the last decade and driven around my garden!

Will make a great restoration piece, deserves better than its current situation, looking for ideas and options?

What is its history?

I don't know much of its history, it was used as a holiday home for many years in Byfield QLD before I owned it, I haven't found any route numbers or similar but it may have been painted green and yellow at some point.

It looks like an ex Sydney one and the green and cream (yellow) tends to confirm that but all the Sydney ones are dated in the forties as far as I know. A lot of them finished up as motor homes in Queensland - see

Is there a builders plate with a chassis number? Usually in the cab somewhere.

Also the chassis number should be stamped on the chassis, near side, near front spring hangers (may be painted over)

there could be a number painted black in the drivers cab,may be painted over,in the early years they were painted Red & Cream,then green & Cream, if it was built by Commonwealth Engineering ,& has had overhaul the body plate can be in one of two places on the back platform next to the conductors bell,or up stairs next the handle for the emergency exit,it has been modified near the front, it looks like a 1500 series

The Drivers Cab if hasn't been been painted over should be cream & the fleet number should be black the numbers about 2 inches High should be to the right of where the sunvisor is/or was, under the fleet number will be a date in half inch numbers that is the date it was last overhauled

1238 - sold 11/62 to Georgetown Bus Service regd m/o 140 - deregd 3/62 reregd m/o 162 ( 65 ) then reregd m/o 5337 from 1/70 to 4/70 then resold 7/72 as mobile caravan reregd GBZ.521 ( 73 ) then noted 79 at Oxenford caravan park QLD as u/r caravan - then noted 9/93 with private owner at Milmerran Airport QLD - then noted again 10/2001 laying derelict at Tingoora QLD

Keith did you purchased this bus from Byfield if you can remember as there was 1432 a 1937 Leyland TD5 located there

I bought it after it had been towed away from Byfield, as it had a fixed starting handle this leads me to believe its no later than 1936, and appears to be identical to the above Leyland TD4c.

Keith it came from Byfield it`ll be 1432 the 1937 Leyland TD5 with a Waddington body that I mentioned

I think this is ex 1636 -check the bottom of the windcreen frame to see if it has a number stamped on it.Maybe 1432.Definitely a TD-5

I have just purchased a Titan Double Decker that we believe to be between and 1947-50 Model. Its between Rocky and Gracemere! I was wondering if you might be able to help me with any oil specifications as I am having trouble getting it out from where it is. It has had water through it so want to make sure that the diff oil is still clean and what I might need to replace it with should it not be.... I am trying to figure out how to get it to a point where I can transport it up to our cattle station. Just really having trouble finding any specs that will help me get our gorgeous girl moving from the swamp that she's in I'd really love any input (or info on transports that can help - my poor tow truck guy is shaking his head a little...) from any other members who might have experience in this department too! Thanks so much So glad I stumbled across this forum!

It will have a worm drive diff which needs an additive to protect the brass crown wheel. You can just fill it with an 80/90 diff oil to get it moving but then change it out later. Engine oil needs to be a mono grade 50

Thanks heaps Diesel Guy, depending on the cost of getting my girl home I may need to pick your brain further about the additive - it might be cheaper to get the engine going and drive it back on a permit Tow guy is talking police escorts and Ergon permission - I'm a bit nervous.....
