Leyland tiger bus questions

Post by 2pawright »

the air compressor on my bus leaks oil, is it in any way connected to the engine and could it cause the level of oil in the engine to drop?

Can be an o ring or leaking fitting depending on how the compressor is set up, shouldn't be too big of a job to fix that.

Wash it down to check if it is from the compressor or the injector pump, have seen throttle shaft seals leak which pools oil along the top of the block then down the timing case.

it seems that the unloader is covered in oil so the pump must have been pumping oil as well as air, it leaks at the unloader and onto the top of the engine and then the oil runs off the back. i am thinking that it would be worth pulling off the compressor and replacing oil seal and rings is there anything else i should do while i am there?

up to you how far you go, you can get majority of seals from Mr Motorparts.

should be four or six bolts connecting it to the timing case plus air supply and coolant lines

Hi all. I have been having a similar issue whereby I have found oil in an air tank. I have posted another topic before coming across this one. Do you know by chance if the large tank under the driver is dual chamber ie for front and rear brakes? It has inlet, outlet and guage feed at each end and has two taps on the base. I cant tell as it doesnt show any signs of been welded in the centre. Maybe it has been weldex internally before ends put on? Sorry I havent seen a tank like this before.

changing rings in a leyland tiger

Post by 2pawright »

hi we need to change rings in our Leland tiger and in talking to an old mechanic i was able to discover that this can be done without removing the engine my question is can we remove the sump and extract the pistons without taking the heads off? the engine is a 6 cylinder diesel mid mount so access to the sump is one side and the heads on the other.
