Broken Hill - Adelaide bus service

Post by hillsbus »

Just came across this -

NSW TrainLink will be running a road coach service from next week from Broken Hill - Adelaide and return twice per week. Of interest is that it will also stop at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

To be operated by Busbiz/Swan Hill Bus Lines.
The current provider of those services-Tilley Park Holdings Pty.Ltd ,t/a Buses R Us from Adelaide was placed in liquidation as from 5.00pm on 14/6/19 so these two services most likely ceased. To be confirmed however.
I understand that the proprietor of Buses R Us has retained some assets under a different entity and will continue operating in a reduced way.
The Port Augusta town and school bus services were owned by the above company and were included in the liquidation.
Davkent Pty.Ltd.,t/a Port Pirie Bus Service have stepped in to operate the services as from 18/6/19.
Hope this assists.

This was confirmed by Buses R Us on their Facebook page yesterday. They have ceased services to/from Broken Hill effective immediately.

Looks like this coach service will be express between Broken Hill and Adelaide as the online booking system doesn't allow you to book at any other towns on the way. Fair enough as well consider the NSW Government is paying for this service.

They could have just extended the Broken Hill /Outback / Siver City Xplorer - whatever you want to call it to/from Adelaide - although that would mean a very, very early departure from Adelaide, unless they adjusted the times!

What about for anybody from Broken Hill who wants to travel to these places? Sure there's not exactly an oversupply of really much at all along that route (), but at least Burra or Riverton and perhaps a pick up/set down only stop somewhere in the Gawler area could be justified.

And if the coach still has empty seats after crossing the border into SA, what's the harm in selling a few more tickets to intrastate travellers? It would help with the cost recovery of the service ;)

That would be much much much more expensive to operate, provide only 1 weekly service instead of 2 and probably involve a horrendous 2:30am arrival into Adelaide, assuming that it was operated as an extension of the service from Sydney (which would be necessary for the Xplorer set to get back in time).
