Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
I have heard from a very good source that the current bus contracts with all contractors will now be up for tender.
The last day of the current contract is the 30/6/2019. No extension is being granted to any contractor
This will affect
Light-City Buses
SouthLink Buses
Torrens Transit
This should make for interesting times ahead

Re: Current Bus Contract
The current bus contracts have an option to renew for a further 3 years from next year, so I can't see new tenders being called next year.
You can't just change a contract mid-stream.

Re: Current Bus Contract
An option to renew is not a given. Have the bus companies met the goals set out? No not always. Not from SA but QLD - https://www.forgov.qld.gov.au/extend-an ... -contracts

Define "very good source". And if they're that good how is it you know about it?ScaniaK320 wrote:I have heard from a very good source
Broadspectrum not renewing contract.
5AA talk back announcer Leon Byner has posted on Twitter that this company will not be renewing its contract when it runs out in June next year.
Obviously because of the low tender price, they are not making any money on the contract.
This will open up the field-will be interesting to see which companies apply?
Wonder if Torrens Transit will try again to win the 2 contract areas back?

Re: Broadspectrum not renewing contract.
Apparently the Government has decided that all existing bus contracts will not be extended in June 2019. New tenders will be opened, and companies interested can tender for the different contract areas.
Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
This all of course assumes that this weeks government is still in power come easter time, which may not necessarily be the case. So I shouldn't get too excited at this rather early juncture.

There will be changes to contracts and possibly a new contractor irrespective of who is in power!1whoknows wrote:This all of course assumes that this weeks government is still in power come easter time, which may not necessarily be the case. Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
And just to clarify this thread a bit the tweet and company referred to are here and reads as follows:
"Leon Byner @LeonByner5AA Feb 22
We understand broad spectrum who operate light city buses will not be renewing their contract with the govt. this happens mid next year. Employees will now be contemplating their futures"

Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
So, as you can read and see, my source is correct.
Regardless of who is in power after the election the tenders will be open.
So now we just sit back with the popcorn and watch the fun.

Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
It's a bit late to now claim that as your source and if indeed it was why were you so cryptic in your original post? Also, given Broadspectrum/LCB are the only company mentioned why do you assume it's open season on everything?ScaniaK320 wrote:So, as you can read and see, my source is correct

I guess we might hear about some tenders from well known companies then maybe CDC or Transdev?Eurostar wrote:Any chance Serco will try again ?
I guess it doesn’t really matter which company has it there is always advantages and disadvantages its always been that way since privatisation happened.

Maybe it's a case of a new broom sweeps clean!!
My hope if there is a change or changes to service providers, that they look after their drivers better.

Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
just do not give them to uber where lcb and southlink operate i would sooner buy me a cheap korean buzz box to drive to work and get about in than use a mafia mob style transport service.
Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
The chances of Uber applying for, and being the chosen operator for, a tender to operate buses is approximately zero given how they do not operate any kind of bus service at all and seem to have no desire to do so.homer9000 wrote:just do not give them to uber where lcb and southlink operate i would sooner buy me a cheap korean buzz box to drive to work and get about in than use a mafia mob style transport service.

Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
thank god for that.but i am hoping lcb should take over the east and north eastern areas plus parts of the western suburbs.a return to an athelstone 576/577/179 mix is in order even if it means cutting the h30(old 105 from memory)to as far as the shops at newton.
Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
Light-City Buses will finish up on 30th June 2019,which means there is a good chance that we will have new companies vying for contracts.homer9000 wrote:thank god for that.but i am hoping lcb should take over the east and north eastern areas plus parts of the western suburbs.a return to an athelstone 576/577/179 mix is in order even if it means cutting the h30(old 105 from memory)to as far as the shops at newton.
Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
This is when all current contracts "end", however all companies have the option of a 4-year extension should they and the government agree to continue.jibb wrote:Light-City Buses will finish up on 30th June 2019,which means there is a good chance that we will have new companies vying for contracts.

Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
But it is believed that LCB have already advised that the do not wish to renew. See earlier in this thread. And also that the Government wishes to go to tender and not take up the renew option.

Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
Also it is quite likely that we will see some different contract areas to what currently exists!

Light-City Buses will be run by Transit Systems Australia for the remaining 12 months of the current contract.

With a combined fleet of around 700 buses and 7 depots it makes TSA's contract here one of its biggest.ScaniaK320 wrote:Broadspectrum will cease as if the 1/7/2018.

Will be interested to see what changes it makes-if any?
Will it bring back the J1 from Elizabeth/City/Airport/Glenelg?
Will it bring back some of the Athelstone services to operate via the O-Bahn?
Interesting times ahead--never a dull moment!

Re: Current Bus Contracts/Renewals
Sounds very interesting. I wonder if Newton depot will get any 200s or even G22X runs? Will Wingfield depot remain operational?
