The Premier has announced this morning that the Government is to spend $70 million on a Public Transport safety investment.
Security Screen for bus drivers will be fast tracked as part of a plan of up to $70 million investment in the Adelaide Metro Public Transport Network.
A tender is being called to retrofit approximately 550 buses in the fleet,with all buses to be fitted out by 2020.
The tender call coincides with a new 3 year contract with Wilson Security,with an option to extend to 9 years. up to a value of $67.5 million
The security contract also includes a new 24/7 security hub at Dry Creek. and will deliver a greater security presence on the public transport network.

So which buses will be fitted exactly? I suspect the NL202s (diesel and CNG) won't have them installed? It's ironic that this is scheduled to occur, just near a time when Adelaide is due for a large number of new buses. It'd be nice to bring the weekend CB80 ratio down from 19/20 to at least 9/10.

I don't like them personally. Their only advantage is they keep the driver slightly warmer in winter. They're not much good security-wise as all a screen does in empower any potential aggressor - they see it as something to bang their hand against when they're annoyed.
