1161, it was black at back , mfs still putting it out.. is it something to do with Custom Coach built ones because I haven't heard of Volgren built ones going up in flames
Next station is Victoria Square. Change here for all trains.
Re: [Sep/Oct 2017] SA transport observations
1140 which had a similar fire in West Terrace in January this year only recently returned to service with a new back and engine.Eurostar wrote:Broadspectrum Scania K320UAjibb wrote:Another Artic bus goes up in flames tonight on West Terrace-Bus looks to be badly damaged, looks to be an O-bahn bus(again).

LCB have had a lot of engine problems with Scania O-Bahn Artics with up to 5 or 6 out of action for long periods. With the impending O-Bahn tunnel opening and more buses required they can ill afford to have so many buses out of action!
Re: [Sep/Oct 2017] SA transport observations
I feel like a few of Morphettville's CB80's should have been fitted with guide wheels such as 1567-1575 and the new ones (1821 and continuing)

We don't have any Scania K-Series artics with Volgren bodies, so no comparisons can really be drawn there.Eurostar wrote:Broadspectrum Scania K320UAjibb wrote:Another Artic bus goes up in flames tonight on West Terrace-Bus looks to be badly damaged, looks to be an O-bahn bus(again).

Watch this space as I believe additional O-Bahn buses are going to be needed when the tunnel and new layover location ope.mmosca447 wrote:I feel like a few of Morphettville's CB80's should have been fitted with guide wheels such as 1567-1575 and the new ones (1821 and continuing)

It wouldn't do any harm to trial one or two to see what passengers think of them. The noise insulation wouldn't be a bad thing considering how loud some O'bahn equipped buses can be.busrider wrote:

The only Volgren K2()0UB in service here at the moment is Southlink 3230.

Re: [Sep/Oct 2017] SA transport observations
it would be interesting to find out why there have been a few fires with obahn artics is it something to do with turbo chargers or a lack of air into the engine bay?jibb wrote:Another Artic bus goes up in flames tonight on West Terrace-Bus looks to be badly damaged, looks to be an O-bahn bus(again).
Re: [Sep/Oct 2017] SA transport observations
though the tiser reported the fire in this case was caused by the breaks.coach driver 1981 wrote:it would be interesting to find out why there have been a few fires with obahn artics is it something to do with turbo chargers or a lack of air into the engine bay?jibb wrote:Another Artic bus goes up in flames tonight on West Terrace-Bus looks to be badly damaged, looks to be an O-bahn bus(again).

I believe 3276, 3277, 3278 are also K series scanias, K270UB's with CR228L Bodies. 3230 would be the only K280UB thoughThe only Volgren K2()0UB in service here at the moment is Southlink 3230.

Re: [Sep/Oct 2017] SA transport observations
im guessing that if the reported estimated damage for $150000 that 1161 could be close to a write off seem alot more damage than 1140 wascoach driver 1981 wrote:it would be interesting to find out why there have been a few fires with obahn artics is it something to do with turbo chargers or a lack of air into the engine bay?jibb wrote:Another Artic bus goes up in flames tonight on West Terrace-Bus looks to be badly damaged, looks to be an O-bahn bus(again).

From the footage I saw the fire looked to spread more than what was the case with 1140, so unfortunately 1161 may be joining 1120 (first Scania O-Bahn artic fire). Hope I'm wrong though.
This is the third O-Bahn Artic fire of the Scanias so hopefully they can find out what is causing this before too much more damage is done. Glad everyone was okay

I have to agree with you that looking at the Channel 7 footage it is definitely worse than the fire in January on 1140.
Maybe DPTI should be looking at ordering more Artics for the O-Bahn(not Scanias though).

A Light -City Bus and a car collided just after 800am this morning on Grand Junction Road Hope Valley,Adelaide Now reports. It is not certain whether the car T-boned the bus or vice versa. The car driver suffered minor injuries.

After years of watching pyres at Randwick and Milton, this is just slow but surreal karma.

1761 was involved in a MVA yesterday adjacent to Port Adelaide Depot shortly prior to about 5pm. The front end of the Bus and rear end of a hatchback appeared to have collided with quite a bit of attention focused on assisting passengers in the rear of the hatchback.
For the lane positioning the bus appeared NIS at the time of the incident and without passengers.

Couldn't agree more with an Artic order replacement for the O-Bahn
I did post on Ch7's and Ch9's Facebook status about it that the government should be looking for a suitable bus chassis for the track I did recommend Mercedes Benz but they've got nothing new in their line up maybe a M.A.N Artic order or Volvo B8RLEA Chassis those Scanias have had problems since day one on the track from tyre scrubbing and had to be speed restricted, the bumpy ride on the track solved by putting higher profile larger tyres on (1114 only) I'm not sure what's really causing the fires 1122's cooling fan is always on even during winter let's hope thats not the next to go up in flames.

Re: [Sep/Oct 2017] SA transport observations
One of LCB's St Agnes O_Bahn drivers told me today that it seemed probable that 1161 will be written off.
LCB can ill afford to loose buses especially Artics, and with the new timetables when the tunnel opens, and buses having to travel to Mile End, they are going to need more buses.
He did say that they were supposed to be getting additional buses but not sure what brand or when.

Re: [Sep/Oct 2017] SA transport observations
Would be nice to see something like a Lion's City driving down the O-Bahn but that's probably highly unlikely. The Volvo would also be a great addition as I think Southlink have a rigid version of that out at the moment and it looks pretty nice.

Re: [Sep/Oct 2017] SA transport observations
Whilst it seems logical to 'upgrade' the O'bahn fleet, my concern is that the rigids will replace the remaining SL202s and CNG vehicles, which will make things even more boring for those who prefer older buses. Unless they're sold to another operator that is.
I did catch 1133 or something today, and it had extremely loud door rattles, combined with the usual noise caused by something with the diff that some of these make. I moved to the front section, only to find that the only two 'comfortable' seats in the front section were occupied. The ride was much more comfortable standing in my opinion, with the vibrations and all.
Is it theoretically possible for the vehicles to get new modified axles so that they're more 'friendly' towards track work?
12 years ago, the O'bahn had buses operating at 90-100kph with a smooth ride, and much better reliability. How things have changed...
