[Mar/Apr 2017] SA Transport observations

Post by The Phonj »

Welcome to Autumn; "Mad March" is in full swing, with the Clipsal 500 already upon us and the Festival of Arts and Fringe both in full swing. Daylight Saving finishes at the beginning of April; don't forget to wind your clocks back by an hour on the appointed day.

Changes to bus stops on Goodwood Rd start Saturday 4 March; for further information; visit the Adelaide Metro website at http://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/Announc ... dwood-Road

Football returns to Adelaide Oval soon; with "AO" services running - keep an eye on the Adelaide Metro website for the timetable which shouldn't be too far away.

"Adele" has a concert at Adelaide Oval on the Monday 13 March; the Adelaide Cup public holiday. With over 60,000 expected and a full 'AO' service compliment it will be good to see how the network copes with the access changes at the northern end of the Adelaide Railway station. I don't believe that previous events at Adelaide Oval over the summer have garnered quite the same crowds that are regularly attending football matches

Please... Post your South Australian transport observations that wouldn't seem to warrant their own thread here.

Lots of questionable shirts being worn by LCB drivers at the moment. Looks like everyday is loud shirt day.

Looks like extra O-Bahn services have been operating on Friday and Saturday nights during the Fringe. Some extra trips are also showing up on the real time data and many appear to be full as well! At least someone has realised the need for extra services because every other year the queue lengths and waiting times on a Friday or Saturday have been enormous.

Surprised that LCB didn't use more Artics on their non-O-Bahn services on Saturday and Sunday.Only 3 or 4 were used? Considering that loadings were very heavy due to the amount of activity on in the City at the weekend.
Both Southlink and Torrens Transit had plenty of their Artics out over the weekend.

Hidden in DPTI's website is the removal of some bus stops along Portrush Road.

http://dpti.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf ... hanges.pdf

It looks like starting last Saturday:
Bus Stop Management Plan - Goodwood Road

UPDATE 17 February 2017 - bus stops 1, 12 and 20 (both sides) of Goodwood Road will be removed from first service Saturday 4 March 2017.

Passengers will be directed to stops 2, 11, 13, 19 or 21 Goodwood Road.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) is seeking to improve the travel times of Adelaide Metro services along Goodwood Road through customer feedback around possible relocation or removal of some bus stops.

The Bus Stop Management Plan project includes:
investigating the potential relocation of stops and shelters that may better serve Adelaide Metro passengers
identifying how different bus stop configurations may improve travel times whilst maintaining good levels of accessibility
A number of bus stops and shelters could be relocated or removed as part of the plan. These proposals are based on DPTI patronage, operational and road safety data.

DPTI sought public feedback in late 2016 on proposed changes to bus stop locations along both Goodwood Road and Glen Osmond Road. After careful consideration of the feedback received from the community, DPTI has made final decisions on bus stop locations.
To view the map showing final changes along Goodwood Road,
To view the map showing final changes along Glen Osmond Road,

This project is part of Operation Moving Traffic, a South Australian Government initiative to improve the efficiency, reliability and safety of the transport network.

and also on the same page shows the final changes to Glen Osmond Road Services.

These changes are somewhat interesting because new timetables have been put on the Admet website for the above routes I wonder if printed ones will now come out. Given that there is a new effective date I am sure they will come out now and we can forget about hunting for the new version numbers for the above bus routes also.

My opinion is that they should review the bus stops on the following roads:

Payneham Road
Lower North East Road from Glynde Corner to Grand Junction Road roundabout
Grange Road
Henley Beach Road
South Road
Main South Road
Main North Road all the way to Munno Para Shopping Centre
Cross Road
Anzac Highway
Greenhill Road
Richmond Road
Tapleys Hill Road
Port Road
Torrens Road
Churchill Road
Grand Junction Road from TTP to Port Adelaide
and lastly Prospect Road

I fail to see how the G20X, G21X and G22X routes will be affected. They don't stop on Goodwood Road, in spite of the 'G' in their alpha-numeric route numbers that occasionally confuse passengers.

Just curious, what exactly is getting rebuilt on 1140, and where is it occurring?

The back of the bus was severely damaged with many panels melting.Work is being carried out by Custom Coaches at their Wingfield factory. No doubt Scania will be providing a new engine for this bus.

How many buses that weren't artics were full and how many passengers were left behind?

New BusTech bus delivered to Port depot this morning. In AdMet livery, rego SB24MR. No fleet number on it yet but maybe 1954? Looks to be longer than the Custom Scanias.
And 1334 now in dark blue AOA for Harcourts Real Estate.

1908 is already allocated to a Scania-so your guess is wrong.

Hopefully they'll start their own number range - perhaps 10xx onwards (any series 1020 or higher).
First person on 822, 865 (2016 re-route).

As well as the Fringe, there is the "Garden of Unearthly Delights" at Pinky Flat, plus the Adelaide Festival and the opening night of WOMADelaide with shuttle bus services to and from the City.
A busy night in the town with no doubt a lot more people than normal using Public Transport.
All these events continue throughout the weekend, plus The Adelaide Cup raceday at Morphettville on Monday which draws a large crowd, with Free Public Transport to and from the Racecourse for ticket holders.
Trams operating a 10 minute service during the day plus additional trams after the races

The "Garden of Unearthly Delights" is in Rundle Park. The "Royal Croquet Club" is located at Pinky Flat. Both are venues for Fringe activities.

Thanks The Phonj for that correction-there is so much on,its hard to keep up with it all.
Monday looks like being very busy and of course as TT points out(I forgot)-the Adele concert where up to 65000 our expected.Lets hope our Public Transport can cope.
Hopefully all 3 bus companies will have all their available Artics in service.

Hasn't been mentioned yet that 3316 (Scania L94UB 14.5/Volgren CR228L) did its turbo on the last 864 last light. Was reported on 7 News as a "bus fire", but it really wasn't.

In other news, 3275 (Scania L94UB/Volgren CR228L) did its front shock absorbers this afternoon on an 863F, was replaced as 3353 for its 865, then swapped to 3206 for its 821.

And lastly, I have heard from a friend that 117 (MAN 11.190/PMC 160) broke down tonight on the last 591C - replaced with 1820 bus. Hopefully doesn't mean the end for it.

Correction, second to last 591C of the day. (Said friend was me, who went to get a ride on 117, got chatting with a driver, who got to Golden Grove 10 min early for the last 591C with 1820 to replace 117 for the last trip as he was not happy with the performance of it, he called it a break down but didn't seem like it to me...)
Regards,
Mr Nicoster.

Wondering if many people use the 591's in the morning or the afternoon?

2237 bumped the back of a Mazda this afternoon in KWR. Slight headlamp damage to the bus and the car will need most of the rear replaced but no injuries.
