Queens Wharf Redevelopment changing bus routes

Post by simonl »

Seems a somewhat mediocre effort here: https://translink.com.au/service-updates/98471

e.g. why bother with keeping the AM 157 coming into QSBS when it would be easier to just use Elizabeth St? Is the William St/QSBS/Victoria Bridge intersection going to be redesigned to allow right turns from William St? Why bother?
Why keep the AM 107 and 108 on Elizabeth St when Adelaide St would reduce congestion
Sending the PM P119 via South Bank? Not nice. It then just becomes a short working of the 120. Via Ann St or Charlotte St would have been better.

At least they've removed the outbound trips of the P129. They could remove the inbound ones too for more 131s etc.

It's going to be interesting that's for sure...

Many of the routes now running via Adelaide ST which will congest at the drop of a hat.... it's a good thing they are introducing the changes over the Christmas period while it's not too busy, but come the return of school and uni in the new year that will change.

Though I'm saying that, if buses are no longer turning left onto the Victoria Bridge there should be provision for a longer light sequence to let buses onto the bridge from William St out of the top of Adelaide St..

From my observations, Adelaide Street is a lot quieter now in evening peak with all the rocket services moving to Mary Street.

Mary Street is now a carpark in the afternoon - IMHO the absolutely dumbest route decision in a long time to send southside rocket buses up Mary Street - it was bad enough when PM Centenary City Precincts buses where the only ones using Mary Street - trying to turn from Mary Street into George Street has always been an absolute nightmare - how TransLink would allow such a route to be implemented is beyond me (I work in Mary Street), especially as their office now overlooks the carnage.

Charlotte Street would have been a much better option or even send them along Alice Street and turn right into George Street.

I think it will be much quicker for passengers to go to QSBS and get a normal BUZ route than getting a PM rocket now.

In the morning, there has been a substantial increase in blank running through Cultural Centre outbound from the City as buses now have no other alternative when leaving QSBS than to go over the Victoria Bridge. The lights at Melbourne and Grey Streets are causing increased delays on the southbound platform in the morning due to increased number of buses.

It is different having the 555 leaving from Adelaide Street now with buses in green livery in a sea f blue and yellow.

I didn't notice that they let the 555 onto Adelaide St, but only on the outbound. Did the state actually show some leadership and overrule the council or did the council suddenly agree to let a private operator onto Adelaide St?

Why would they turn right out of either Mary or Charoltte Sts?

Many route times and changes taking effect from last Monday 12/12/16, this is having a positive effect for services that start outside the city. The trouble is when these services all get to the city to unload passengers and the CBD is choked by Office executives in Audis,C Class Mercs,BMWx5s, the odd Tesla all going to work at 8.05 and trying to get to their underground parking bays that the buses become gridlocked in the mayhem of the modern city with 2 major streets being totally blocked off in Jan 1. Queens Wharf road is already closed to buses, which has now put an extra 50 buses per hour onto city streets, when William street closes completely on Jan 1, the other 100 per hour buses that used to use William street are added to other streets and busways you will witness one of the greatest traffic jams of the modern time. For bus enthusiasts, you will be able to stand on the corner of North Quay, William Street and the Victoria Bridge and see the entire fleet, waiting in line to progress 4 bus lengths at a time if the intersections are not blocked. Good luck to all involved 30/01/2017 will see.
Never again have to wait in a Q,in Queen Street ?

The 555 City desto has been updated to Elizabeth St & Adelaide St to reflect the Dec. 12 changes.
