Apparently it's in this current term - April 2012 to March 2016.

I've done some calculating of the listings of fleets and can only come up with 294 - not including the Mercedes Benz Citaro trial.

Perhaps the Council couldn't wait another 6 buses as that would've been til after the election!

Out of interest, does anyone know how many buses are left for delivery in the current BT contract and what timeframe they will be delivered?

Why the bus numbers never add up, some disappear off the books, some have accidents and disappear. It's like the Bermuda triangle they just go missing. Some are written off very bad accidents, hit trees, fall off hoists, get rear-ended, etc. So you see the fleet numbers will never add up to the stated numbers. Maybe they're still out there Sculley? Not really an observation and it's not from this year but I've not been able to find anything on this on this forum. Very interesting that this went under the radar.

Australian bus manufacturer, Bustech has been chosen as the lead design and manufacturing partner for a $170 million electric bus project.

Announcing the project, Bustech CEO Michael McGee said the project would position Bustech as an innovative regional leader in the use of renewable energy for buses.

“The E-Bus project is an international research and development project co-funded by the Malaysian and Australian players and governments, which aims to develop an electric bus for trial operations in Malaysia,” he said.

Bustech, part of Transit Australia Group, has partnered with the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) (a Malaysian government body), Swinburne University of Technology and AutoCRC and a private Malaysian company to develop and test the E-Bus project in Malaysia.

Swinburne University is providing the electric bus technology to the project and will work closely with Bustech throughout the trials of the prototype vehicle.

On the Gold Coast to inspect the Bustech facility, Malaysian Automotive Institute CEO M Madani Sahari said if successful, the electric bus could be exported to other countries.

“This partnership is a win-win for both Australia and Malaysia because it develops opportunities that have benefits for both countries,” he said.

Mr Sahari said that Malaysian industry was spending 500 million ringgit ($AUD170 million) on establishing an electric bus public transport system, including infrastructure such as charging stations.

Transit Australia Group is working closely with a Malaysian manufacturer in exploring opportunities to commercialise the technology.

AutoCRC, whose role it is to identify and develop opportunities for the Australian automotive industry, helped broker the deal by bringing the MAI and Bustech together.

AutoCRC research director Gary White said Bustech was well-suited to the project, with high-end capabilities in the manufacturing process.

“Our long-term vision at AutoCRC is to re-build manufacturing in Australia and this project is a perfect illustration, with Bustech’s manufacturing facility capable of delivering high-quality, innovative products,” Dr White said.

The first bus is planned to roll off the production line in July 2015, with trials to begin in September.

News of the vehicle is also the most recent article on the Bustech website. The bus was prototyped to go to Malaysia as a trial for a fully electric bus to replace the existing fleet in the country. Codenamed the ZDi, the bus is produced in conjunction with the Malaysian Automotive Institute, Bustech and the Swinburne University of Technology. The bus has since been unregistered and can't be found on the QLD Government rego search.

The bus was displayed at the 2015 Bus Show in Melbourne and was reported on in Australian Bus Panorama. However no pics of the vehicle were possible at the Expo as the thing was inside a kind of tent with very little room around it.

At Virginia today are three E Volvos parked amongst the V allocation, 2154 being one of them. Does eagle farm park buses here now if doing services around Virginia???

Given Eagle Farm and Virginia share most routes it's probably rest breaks.

Spotted a pair of Garden City buses (I think they were the Scania L94UB but I cant be sure) parked in the layover space at Loganholme Hyperdome Bus Station early yesterday afternoon. I didn't think there were any Brisbane Transport routes that ran into the Hyperdome, does that count as an "unusual" observation or was there some specific reason they might have been there? (some route I dont know about that BT runs?)

I saw them too entering the pacfic motorway Brisbane bound, destos showed charter and appeared to be school kids on board.
