Spent last week in Canberra. The information on the digital destos (excluding the Renault/Macks) between weekday and weekends is amazing. Weekday is basically the final destination, whilst the weekends have plenty of intermediate points. One wonders why they cannot be programmed the same?

Apparently it is one of ACTION's silly rules that the final desto must be displayed. But I know a few drivers program the weekend desto in on the MkII Renaults & then just override the route number.

IIRC, ACTION prefer that there is a limit of 3 scrolls on their destos.

That might be partly to do with the fact that some (most?) weekend routes are basically old weekday routes with a nine whacked on the front, and may have had longer lists of sub-destinations. The newer weekday routes have been programmed afresh more recently. It also may be that (some of) the weekend routes are a lot less direct. As an example, the 905 on weekends vs the 43 on weekdays. From Dunlop the 905 takes about 10-15 min longer than the 43 to get to Belconnen (because it also covers part of other weekday routes), as it goes through more suburbs, there's more to put on the Desto.

The cynic in me also suspects that Bus Companies have discovered that passengers are happier when they think the service is good. During the week, this means they want to think a service is direct - so we show fewer way points. On a weekend they want to think the entire network is well covered - and they can get anywhere easier, so more destinations are shown. \
Though this seems a little stupid, it is probably reasonable to think that on weekends people are more likely to travel to a greater range of destinations (eg to a friends place) where as during the week more travel would be to/from work (usually at a Town Centre) or shopping, so suburbs we pass through are less relevant (eg the 942 might (I'm not saying it does) show Aranda, Jamison Centre, Cook, Weetangara, Macquarie (I forget which order it visits them), while the 10 during the week might (again, not saying it does) simply show "Belconnen via Jamison Centre", despite visiting all the suburbs mentioned above. etc...

Thanks the layover for Campbell Park Terminus. The Department of Defence blocked it off so that grass could grow. The grass grew & the fence was taken down & it went back to dirt.

You would think that they would make it an area for the bus to park by tarring it! Bloody tight DoD!

Further round there is a proper layover/bus stop, but from what I've seen it was built back when buses were shorter & unless the first bus in the line, is the first bus out, there are a few problems.

My latest pictures are of gas buses & the song I was listening to at the time was "My Life Would Suck With You" by Kelly Clarkson.
