Metro #800 - Integral Bustech prototype

Post by Tas Bus Nut »

The Tasmanian Bus & Coach Society had the opportunity to "test-drive" Metro's NEW integral Bustech XDi prototype. Built in QLD, this bus is the prototype to 100 new buses, with the next 99 being built in Tasmania at Wynyard. Powered by 300hp Euro 6 Cummins engine, driver MetroMan found the vehicle quite responsive and climbed even the steepest hills with ease. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the best however we still managed some decent photos around Hobart and suburbs. The first Tasmanian built unit is expected March 2018, with #800 going into service in Hobart within the next couple weeks.

Was the nearside mirror obstructed by the A pillar?
Was the rear door step free?

The dash board look very old school

Shame they didn’t re design the livery for the “new” fleet replacements?!

My opinion: the metro livery looks basic and bland needs to be more creative :)

It was suggested to the incoming CEO that it was an ideal time with the new buses being built, :( but unfortunately, it wasn't to be :( BLAND old appliance white, I'm afraid :( It's all about the advertising $$$ nowadays and although I can understand their logic, it doesn't alter the opinion (expecially) of enthusiasts. At least Brisbane still have a "livery" of sorts, independent of other operators, like Transperth. Sydney and Melbourne have adopted the "Government" enforced livery (albiet, it does have colour) but YES, I totally agree. A real shame for us here in TAS :(

I would not be surprised if Metro replaced the black eventually and it will have the customary all yellow front and all white rear end. Nice new addition to the fleet though but Metro seem to place the fleet number in duplicate positions when once upon a time it was only found in 4 places [front, rear, sides] plus inside for the driver. :) Presume AOA is the reason for that. One would think the registration plate identified a Metro vehicle :!:
