A Bedford SB Motorhome

Post by LocoLes »

On 3 separate occasions I came across this excellent example of a CAC bodied SB Bedford [1953-56] at different locations in Tasmania. First time was in Launceston where the livery suggests it may have once been from Morses' Motors of Devonport fleet as their similar Bedford fleet were painted cream all over when operating the Devonport area services, until the mid 1960's at least. Nothing suggests the bus may have been ex MTT, the only possibility is the former MTT No.519, the only MTT SB with unpainted aluminium panels [at headlight level]. Morse's buses also had the unpainted panels.
Over the years this motorhome has received a repaint with the most recent noticed in the last photo at Scamander. The destination blinds may be a clue! No.519 in service at Burnie used white letters on a BLACK background [same as Hobart]. All these photos show the opposite [ MTT Launceston used black lettering on white background] and the Launceston livery was ALL green below window level. 'Picnic' and 'School' could also be a clue.

[corrected error re blinds - 13Dec]
