No - this is not a mistake! Even though it is a Victorian town and not a bus in sight!

I'm sure many of you know the relevance - a couple of hints - Murrayville is just over the SA/Vic border, just past Pinnaroo, and if you check back through the photos of private buses in the 1920s, you will see that some of them are displaying "Murrayville" as a destination.

Let's have some "audience participation" - anyone just toss in any information you know of, and I reckon we'll pretty soon have the complete story!

THis was a consequence of heavy restrictions on intra-state bus travel in most states, regulations to "protect" government rail services.

But there were no restrictions on inter-state travel, so an operator could sell you a ticket from, say, Adelaide to Murrayville, and once there, could sell you another ticket back to Pinaroo (or anywhere else in South Australia). Both legs crossed the state border, so were "interstate" trips.

In NSW at least such restrictions applied well into the late 1980s, if not later.

LinkSA still do a daily return trip from/to Murrayville. A school run (but also available for public to use, but only runs Wed and Fri in school holidays) from Murrayville to Murray Bridge which then connects with an Adelaide LinkSA service.
