Retired old MEN: 1641/2

Post by busrider »

Hello everybody,

Some recent discussion in the Random AdMet Questions Thread prompted me to go through my photo archives and see what pictures I had of 1641/2. 1641/2 are both MAN SL202 CNGs with Volgren bodywork, and they were numbered 926 and 927 respectively with Brisbane City Council, before being purchased by Torrens Transit. To the best of my knowledge, these buses have since been scrapped.

Enjoy the photos, comments welcomed as always.

1641 is seen at Henley Beach on March 28, 2011, prior to commencing a 287 trip to the city. Although the desto had number rolls, the electronic winding mechanism wasn't working, so supp boards with the route numbers had to be used.

The driver's cab of 1641.

March 14, 2012 was a particular windy day, which saw disruptions to rail services with Torrens Transit providing some buses for emergency rail subs. 1641 is seen here at Mawson Lakes, a place where it most likely had never been before, and probably never went to again. 1641's previous fleet number can be seen on the roof and the aircon unit. Note the fallen fence in the background...

Image

1642 seen at Paradise Interchange on December 7, 2011, with a more reliable (and more informative!) Mobitec desto.

Image

1642 was again doing a 178 trip on February 1, 2012, driving past an NL232 CNG at Victoria Square in the city.

Image

On Janurary 12, 2015, 1641 was waiting patiently at the lights, while doing a W91 to St Marys...

Image

... When suddenly, its twin sister 1642 came the other way, doing a H21 to Paradise.

Some nice shots there. As I said in my post they were one of my favourite Admet buses of recent times.

It appears that 1641, from the first photo & a few other early shots, had on its left hand side a roller desto from one of the old Volvos that said stuff like CITY/FIRST SET DOWN STOP __/EXPRESS.
