I've kept to more recent photos this time - I'll mix things up a bit, rather than stick to the strict chronological order the photos are in on the disc - this will minimise the number of older, poorer quality photos at any one time.

One note - I don't think the Morphett Bedford is an SB3 - unless the chassis has been radically altered - I suspect it is more likely a VAM - however the supplied caption states an SB3, so I've used that - any thoughts anyone? I suspect from the date, that the photo is taken at either Morphettville or Hackney depots - the big shift of ex-private buses to Hackney & Morphettville occurred in February 1977. It is probably Morphettville - as Morphettville did not have any petrol facilities, petrol engine buses from the southern depots (Henstridge had several), were sent to Hackney and an equivalent number of diesels came from northern depots to Morphettville. I can just recall a bus like this being used on Henstridge's South Road routes after the changeover.

Cheers

I've been doing some checking about the Morphett Bedford 8025.

I found an old Morphett's fleet list from a "Bus and Coach Society of South Australia Newsletter" from the early 1970s.

Morphett's No 25 is listed as "342-732 Bedford/Perkins rebuilt Freighter C41F 1964 - Rebuilt on truck chassis."

That's a surprise!

Cheers, Trevor

It was a converted SB3 chassis that was fitted with a Perkins 6.354 engine and was new in 1964, which was before the VAM was released in Australia. Morphett's also had 5 "normal" Freighter bodied SB3 buses when acquired by the MTT. They had a lot of Fords in the 40s and early 50s, most bodied in Melbourne by Symons & Fowler or Cheetham & Borwick. In the mid 50s they went for the UF Atkinson, bodied by either Cheetham & Borwick or Syd Wood in Sydney.
