Here is a selection of my photographs of what was once a very popular bus or coach in and around Adelaide. Unfortunately I did not compile a large photographic collection of the Bedford in action in SA but here are some that will jog the memory of those who remember the 1960's and 70's.
Firstly though is a later Bedford bearing NSW plates YKU-699 that I spotted at St. Marys, obviously fitted out as a mobile home. Maybe we can identify this Hedges bodied vehicle.
Photos 2 & 3 are of two from the once large fleet of Johnson's of Aldgate, The Comair was parked at Glenelg and the Freighter outside the SA Road Safety Centre at Oaklands Park that is no longer there.
Picture 4 also at Glenelg a VAM [UEG-129] Falland' s.
Photo 5 is one of two Bedford VAM70' s with Freighter-SA body from the Harcourt Gardens fleet. #11 became STA 7811 and was equipped with curtains for the passengers. #12 was the other similar VAM70 [not photographed].
Photo 6 is STA 8207 the former Thomas Tours #7, a 1966 Comair CAC operating Route 680 Flinders University to Brighton railway station. #8207 was a familiar bus operating Route 680 until replaced by new Volvos [1401-1420].
Enjoy these.

Re: Bedford buses - Some more fond memories
Hi LocoLes. Love the photos.
As for Johnson's #2 Bedford. Here it is before Len Johnson bought it.It originally had a big door for freight at the back. The rear freight compartment was converted back to passengers seats while they had it.Some of their buses did get a repaint later.
The Johnson's Comair was Len Johnson's bus he himself used to drive to bring the service from Aldgate (or Mylor) to Adelaide and he did the return later that day.

Are we sure that the first one is a Hedges body, By the last four digits of the VIN 1375 it would match

Many thanks Fleet Lists, no I am not certain re body being Hedges. Your suggestion [Custom Coaches] would be more accurate than my details. Thanks kindlyFleet Lists wrote:Are we sure that the first one is a Hedges body, By the last four digits of the VIN 1375 it would matchExcept for the grill it would closely match the later Custom Coaches bodied bus with rego m/o 389Operator Sydney Coachlines - Kingsgrove
