So what is it that they are doing to this line? Replacing the track with standard gauge?

Great photos J1R, love the first one with the fog! Now we know where the water pools, so hopefully the drainage at Blackwood and Belair is fixed!

laptop15, that is one of the longest in SA at around 150-200m (my guess). There's a shorter one a bit further along the line, probably around 100m. There aren't many more than this in SA, some rail enthusiasts may be able to tell you more.
C130, the whole line is being reconstructed, right from the ground. Fixing drainage, improving base layer, new ballast, gauge convertible sleepers and new rails. It should be a lot better to ride once it's complete in a couple of months time.

I'd imagine they're scared to switch the signals off....
I know (or at least think) they recently (as in in the last 4 years) switched to a new singnalling system (which at the time caused a bit of chaos) and suspect they really don't want to touch anything to do with signals if they can help it.

Also possible they've simply forgotten...

They do the same here, if the rail is up for rebuilding, you'll see the tripper sitting by the base of the signal. It's funny when the signal's showing double green and there's no track for meters (or kilometers) eitherside of the signal

Probably is helpful for when they goto re commission the line once the work is done, having a signal that's not working because someone ripped the cable out a few hours/days/weeks back would be a pain when the trains have to start running again in a few hours time - on top of other hassles that crop up, if it's left on, then there's probably a better chance of it being fixed soon after it happens (more likely to find the problem quicker as well).

TransAdelaide - there's a good chance they didn't even think of it!

I noticed that they now have laid rails and sleepers at Belair station. I am not sure how far they have gone, but there were just piles of sleepers at Glenalta when I was there this afternoon.

on the first day, 26th april, workers were isolating signals - spoke to a tech that day, he said they were just going to be left isolated on red for the entire time.
