Belair line work at Mitcham

Postby Eagle Eye » Wed May 06, 2009 3:48 pm

These photos were taken on Saturday at Mitcham Station. I should point out that any barricades had been torn down/removed by either enthusiasts or vandals enthusiasts, and I did not walk around/over any barricades. i.e. the areas I took my photos from were fully accessible.

The cutout where the line used to split at the northern end of the station.

Old rails lying at the station.

The old points at the northern end of the station. You can see these would have been set for the last train back to Adelaide.

Looking south from the down platform.

Where the tracks used to merge, just south of Wattlebury Road.

Looking north from the Wattlebury Road crossing. Looks pretty normal to me!

$2,500 fines for vehicles illegally using red Bus Only lanes - could cut the state's debt real quickly if they extended that to regular Bus Lanes!

The new line will be in full operation by then and services should be fast and reliable with no temporary speed restrictions, fingers crossed.

Glad to hear it. on one of my previous trips home to Adelaide i took my wife for a run on the train from Taperoo to the City. We had to catch a bus back. it's the only time she's ever had motion sickness. :D

It'll be weird seeing the broad gauge track again too. I drive Narrow Gauge suburbans here in perth. Our track looks like model track compared to Adelaide's broad gauge.
