Sorry to ask a question, but why is the Northfolk 737 200 going to be a screamer??
Can you shed some light on that statement please.

If you look at the engines compared to say the Qantas or Virgin 737's they are very different

To answer the question in another way, the 200's had earlier engines, which were not high by-pass, like the engines installed on the 300's and later. If you look at the engine nacelles, you will see that they are of a much smaller diameter than those of later models. "By-pass" refers to the amount of air entering the front of the nacelle, which by-passes the central core of the engine. In the newer engines, a lot of air by-passes the core, meaning that a much smaller proportion of high pressure stuff comes out of the rear of the nacelle, making them MUCH quieter. Not so with the older engines, which are exceedingly noisy!Lynx wrote:Sorry to ask a question, but why is the Northfolk 737 200 going to be a screamer??

Thanks.
So the engines on the boeing 727 tristar would be similar. They are my fav plane. Don't get to see them much anymore.
I remember them being very loud.

Hush kits can silence noisy engines to some extent or are they not as helpful as they are made out to be?

Whilst both having three engines the 727 was made by Boeing and the L1011 Tristar was made by Lockheed.Lynx wrote:Thanks.

Hush kits are good but you are essentially paying to make a very old airframe quiet.Volvo B12BLEA wrote:Hush kits can silence noisy engines to some extent or are they not as helpful as they are made out to be?
