Old Bedford Memories

Post by LocoLes »

The photos attached carried Vic registration plates and include Bedfords holidaying in SA. The CAC 7SB was beyond help but the remainder were motorhome converted.

Image858 was parked behind an roadside advertisement at Edenhope, Vic [near Vic/SA border] but appeared to be left to the elements.
Image860 CAC Bedford SB at Glenelg SA. The bus appears to have a grille from a Ford truck in lieu of the normal Bedford grille.
Image861 Lawton body with AOA style livery. Parked at Glenelg, SA.
Image864 Comair Bedford SB3? [recessed grille 1961?] at Goolwa, SA.
Image872 later style Comair Bedford SB3? at Ararat, Vic.

Bedford lovers may also wish to view some more photographs in Adelaide photos. :|

Don't know if its just me but those classic CAC curves and features seem to stand out more prominently in derelict examples - a few broken windows, missing paint etc. Love them !

At the risk of piggy-backing, just came across this nice image of an early SB outside Coles in Edwardes Street, Reservoir...

This bus was MO 4166 with Pappalardo of Taree NSW who operated between there and Forster in NSW in the 1960's. I don't have my notes handy at the moment but going on memory it had a Ford chassis with the body being built by Pappalardo. I think it was Perkins powered when i first saw it but maybe the current owner can verify the correct details.

Img861 is a Bedford VAS1 diesel that was bodied by R V Piper and registered HXR 257 in 12/63 for Hi-Way Busways of Kingsville in Melbourne. It ran a short route out of Yarraville now run by Sita.

Wow! How do ordinary people know how to do this stuff to a bus?
I would be completely lost. I particularly like the pearled steering wheel and the American style twin rectangle shape headlights. Really suits it.

Those American headlights suit it. Why don't more people install square headlights on older bodies.
