Very much so considering the number of hired in buses at the moment-with quite a number being school buses and retired track buses without the validating machines. The whole debacle must be costing Transdev a fortune.

Can't have been the same one but Driver bus 42, also former Melbourne Tourist shuttle low floor Dennings, was running a 302 outbound from the city around about the same time yesterday. Driver driver and Transdev guide.

Today was Ventura 29 again on the 3.15pm route 293 from Greensborough, again displaying 'Driver Training' as the destination, with the usual correct route number on a laminated A4 sheet on the window.

Later, the 4.15pm route 293 from Greensborough was operated by Dysons 703.

It's a tribute to Dysons professionalism that they don't just dump leftover buses on Transdev (and this is not actually intended as a criticism - operators have obligations to their own customers first) but seem to give them more modern buses whilst running older buses on their own routes, not to mention having proper destinations on most services I've seen myself and in others' photos instead of just the route number in the windscreen.

Observed this afternoon on the 600/922/923 corridor out of Southland that five consecutive trips were provided using vehicles from other operators.

2:31pm route 922 to St Kilda was CDC Melbourne #84 (Volvo B10M MkIV/Volgren)
2:41pm route 600 to Sandringham was Kastoria #24 (Merc O405NH/Volgren)
2:59pm route 923 to St Kilda was Ventura #821 (Scania L113CRL/Northcoast)
3:15pm route 922 to St Kilda was Kastoria #6 (Merc O405/Volgren)
3:22pm route 600 to Sandringham was CDC Ballarat #165 (Scania L94UB/Volgren)

For some reason the first bus was displaying two paper destination signs, one saying 600 and the other 922, neither of which said where the bus was actually going to.

CDC buses were being driven by their drivers assisted by a "pilot" driver from Transdev, the others were being operated by Transdev drivers.

Another replacement bus seen on the 6.05pm 303 service from Queen St tonight was a numberless (?) Nuline coach.
Ventura Designline 1152 was seen in Lonsdale St on an inbound NIS shortly after.

Am I optimistic in assuming that all these chartered buses are being used while other operators have spare buses during the school holidays so that Transdev can have a major push to overhaul their usual buses ? Or is reality that next week will see large numbers of runs being cancelled?
After 33 years of commuting by bus, I now have a Seniors Myki and two more hours a day not stuck in Victoria parade on a Transdev bus.

The Nuline buses all have fleet numbers on the front nearside and offside corners and on the rear, so you can't have looked very hard!

They should be returned over the weekend as they are being used on Metro rail replacement all next week.

Ventura 1160 was running the 8.07am route 293 from Greensborough this morning, including a destination accurately set for the 293 ('Greensborough 293' when I saw it heading to Greensborough in Looker Rd). Would they have done this specially, or is it an opportune remnant from their days operating National Bus?

I noticed a similar thing on Ventura 180 displaying correct route and desto. I was advised that all destos are still programmed in across all Ventura fleet from when they had the contract.

The Ventura buses; the Volgren CR221L/Scania's, definitely still have their desto's programmed with the old National bus routes as I have see proper destos for route 907 (City), 318 (City and Deep Creek) whilst also a route 207 with Donvale displayed. Even these still look better than whatever Transdev programmes.

Noted over the past few days a variety of buses not on their usual routes such as Gemilang Scania on routes 246, 250 and 251 along with a Smartbus livery Designline Orbitor 16.220 on the 250, interesting non-Smartbus liveried buses operating the orbital 903 and 902 services such as Scania CR228Ls.

Crown and Mees are operating many of the school run services.

Another addition to Transdev woes this week is the Rail shutdown between Macleod and Clifton hill. Besides losing buses to the train replacement buses large numbers of commuters from the Hurstbridge corridor are driving to Manningham to catch buses such as the 905 and 908. Long traffic queues worse than normal are delaying southbound 902 services along Fitzsimmons lane.

Ditto on a Ventura bus running a route 295 to Doncaster this afternoon. Good to see they found the destinations and are now using them.

Long traffic queues worse than normal are delaying southbound 902 services along Fitzsimmons lane.

It took over 40 minutes this morning to get from Eltham to the apple peel roundabout with traffic banked back to Eltham station. At first I thought it was just the Bolton St roadworks causing people to deviate, but later realised it would also be the Hurstbridge line shutdown. Will definitely avoid the 902 this week...

Ventura bus 490 (ex Nationalbus MB O405 Ultra) operated a route 305 to The Pines during the PM peak today. Did not think I would ride this bus again (although in white livery) on a Doncaster route service after being withdrawn from route service following the introduction of DART.
The back of Doncaster depot seems to have less buses 'parked' along the back now during the morning peak.

Most of the destinations are still on the file, however Routes such as the 370/380 are not programmed in as they were introduced some 12 months after Ventura lost the contract

I only wish they would go back to using the route numbers 366 and 367 instead of the nonsense 380 "loop" routes which only ever show Ringwood (anti-)clockwise on them. It has to be the worst decision they have ever made, although the services themselves have improved since the old days of two-hourly Sunday services that finished at 4 in the afternoon (although still not even remotely useful at night on the weekend as they still finish way too early).

The Orbital fleet must be still feeling the stress of the recent safety audits. Today on the 901 Frankston-Melbourne Airport and return I noted Custom Coaches CB80 and Designline Bubble. Strange to note that some of the Gemilang's and other Volgrens on 246 routes where 903 route has some older PTV CR228Ls running on it. Strange.

Also noticed a Smartbus Scania CR228L former Invicta with the original interior Invicta bus print on the seats nostalgic, Ventura's 900 and 700 routes still operate with the Invicta bus print as well.

Yeah, the SmartBuses in the 8900s were ex Lilydale Depot, formerly numbered 9xx at Invicta, and IIRC 2xx prior to being upgraded with SmartBus equipment. I'm surprised that the fleet lists don't show these changes over the years.

There are in fact no 700 series routes that were operated by Invicta, all of them were in the mid-late 600 series (excluding the seven Telebus routes).

They were #201 - #209 when they entered service in March 2008 on the 901 Frankston - Ringwood, complete with SmartBus iivery and gear.

The following year Invicta sold to Grenda, and they were renumbered #901 - #909 to avoid conflicts with the existing Grenda fleet (effectively every Invicta bus had 700 added to the old fleet number, #70 became #770 etc)

Then in 2010 the SmartBuses at Grenda's and East-West got the 8-prefix to assist operations staff allocate them to the orbitals as the numbering for the B7RLEs is all over the place.

Kind Regards

Craig :-)

This is for the Transdev Melb fleetlist.

Transdev bus 128 (Gemilang/Scania) is currently listed as a Scania K310UB but is actually a Scania K320UB chassis after having a look at the chassis plate while onboard. Also on a physical count this bus has 43 seats not 40 as listed.

Thanks, will update. Could you please check the body numbers for all the Gemilang bodied Scania's as we are still missing most of them, should start with: AUS then two or three numbers.
need red GA:516, 517, 520, 521, 654 to 655, 662, 665, 668, 672, 676, 831.

Travelling on an east bound 250 yesterday (Mon Oct 30) about 8:30 am the bus came across a broken down 251. My 250 stopped to see if he could offer any assistance. The 251 driver said no help needed, he said that "the compressor just fell off".

I have no idea what compressor he was referring to and I know another Transdev breakdown is not news, but I was struck by the description "fell off".

Does anyone know if Jacinta Allan, any of her staff or any bureaucrats from PTV read this forum? If they did how could they possibly give Transdev another contract?
I am a member of the public and I guess I am a moron, although I try very hard not to be.
