CDC Route 605 changes - 25 June 2017

Postby Craig » Mon Mar 27, 2017 2:08 pm

As compensation for the removal of trams on Domain Rd to allow for the Metro Tunnel works, CDCM Route 605 (Gardenvale - City) will operate to a new alignment from 25 June, with much of the current "City Loop" deleted. I'd presume buses will terminate at the top of Queen St at Queen Victoria Market.

PTV wrote:Changes to bus Route 605

From Sunday 25 June, the Route 605 bus will be realigned between South Yarra and Melbourne CBD to service Domain Road, Birdwood Avenue, Southbank Boulevard and the west end of the CBD along Queen Street.

This will improve reliability on Route 605 by minimising traffic congestion in the sports precinct along Punt Road, Olympic Boulevard and Batman Avenue.

The route will no longer operate along Flinders Street, Lonsdale Street and Exhibition Street. Passengers who access the east end of the CBD on Route 605 are able to connect to tram services and train services at Flagstaff Station to complete their journey.

Changes to Route 605 come ahead of Melbourne Metro Tunnel works on Domain Road between St Kilda Road and Dallas Brooks Drive.

Passengers who currently catch Route 605 at Olympic Boulevard or in the CBD will need to catch an alternative bus, train or tram, and are encouraged to plan their journey with the PTV Journey Planner.

Updated timetables for Route 605 will be available on the PTV website or by calling 1800 800 007 from 25 May 2017.

Kind Regards

The news item has strangely vanished from the PTV website, but a media release confirming the change has now been put out.

Note the bus will only operate along Queen St as far as La Trobe St and not to Queen Victoria Market.

Changes To Bus Route 605 For Metro Tunnel Construction

Parliamentary Secretary for Transport

Media Release

The Andrews Labor Government has announced changes to the route of bus 605 to ensure passengers can continue to get where they need to go when work ramps up on the Metro Tunnel.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Transport Ros Spence announced the new route for bus 605 today, which will travel around the works for the new underground station at Domain.

Route 605 currently travels between Punt Road and Swan Street into the city. Starting 25 June this year, the route will travel along Anderson Streets and Birdwood Avenue into the western end of town, along Queen Street as far as La Trobe Street.

The new route will allow passengers to connect to trams along St Kilda Road, as well as trains at Flagstaff Station.

It will now pass Melbourne Grammar School and Melbourne Girls Grammar School, providing students with direct connections into the city.

There will also be changes to tram Route 8 during the Metro Tunnel works which will be rerouted to travel from Domain Road to Toorak Road West.

New tram tracks will be built on Toorak Road West between Park Street, South Yarra and St Kilda Road in mid-2017 to maintain a direct tram connection from South Yarra to the CBD during Metro Tunnel construction.

Once these works are complete, a section of Domain Road will be closed for several years while the new Domain Station is built under St Kilda Road.

For more information and to view the timetables, visit ptv.vic.gov.au or call 1800 800 007.

Quotes attributable Parliamentary Secretary for Public Transport Ros Spence

“Changes to Route 605 will ensure passengers can continue to get where they need to go while we build the new station at Domain, and will improve access to the Royal Botanic Gardens and the western end of the CBD.”

“It’s one of a number of changes that will be made to local roads and public transport routes to keep Melbourne moving while we build the Metro Tunnel, to run more trains, more often across Melbourne.”

Kind Regards

Interim route changes from last Wednesday...

CDC Victoria wrote:
Temporary Route 605 re-alignment

Effective 10 May 2017 (till new route 605 is implemented)

Due to current works on the Swan Street Bridge, Route 605 will undergo a temporary route change from 10 May 2017 till the new route 605 is implemented.

This will allow the 605 to provide coverage along Domain Road due to the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA) Domain Station construction works and removal of Route 8 tram on Domain Road.

Due to the current vehicle congestion and delays along Olympic Boulevard and Batman Avenue, Route 605 INBOUND will travel north on Punt Road, Turn Left onto Brunton Avenue (west bound)/ Jolimont Road and then Left onto Wellington Parade South continuing onto Flinders Street and then resumes its normal route.

On major event days at the MCG where Brunton Avenue closes, Route 605 will continue along Punt Road, turn Left (westbound) onto Wellington Parade and continue onto Flinders Street where is resumes its normal route.

Please note, Outbound journeys on the 605 are not affected.

Kind Regards

About time. The congestion along Olympic blvd is absolutely crazy. Its not uncommon for the queues to be back to goschs paddock. regularly see 605s tailing each other coming out of the city.

The New route from June now only avoids this but also some of other major congestion points i.e Punt Rd and the infamous Flinders St(which routes been moved out off in last 10 years).
Having said that new route is not without its congestion points though some are not as bad as old route. The main 2 pinch-point on new routes will be around Queen St/ Flinders St/ Queensbirdge Intersection and the left turn from Southbank Blvd into City Rd.

Both of which affect major existing bus services and are primarily affected by cars being seemly unable to obey road laws rather than actual infrastructure design.

Spotted #115 (Scania L94UB, Volgren) heading south along Queen Street turning right into Flinders St around 13:30 this afternoon, with several drivers being given familiarisation training for the new 605 alignment.

Hello,

Details of altered Route 605 have begun to appear on the PTV website.... although no timetable and map as yet (to be released tomorrow).

The route will travel as follows:

INBOUND:
Departs from Kooyong Rd near the corner of North Rd and runs via Kooyong Rd, Rose St, Clendon Rd, Malvern Rd, Orrong Rd, Toorak Rd, Grange Rd, Bruce St, Williams Rd, Alexandra Ave, Anderson St, Domain Rd, Birdwood Ave, Linlithgow Ave, Southbank Bvd, City Rd, Power St, Queens Bridge St, Flinders St, Queens St, La Trobe St and Williams St to the terminus on Williams St outside Flagstaff Station.

OUTBOUND:

Departs from the terminus in Williams St outside Flagstaff Station and runs via Lonsdale St, Queens St, Flinders St, Queens Bridge St, Power St, City Rd, Southbank Bvd, Linlithgow Ave, Birdwood Ave, Domain Rd, Anderson St, Alexandra Ave, Williams Rd, Bruce St, Grange Rd, Toorak Rd, Orrong Rd, Beatty Ave, Rose St, Kooyong Rd, North Rd, Nepean Hwy to the terminus in Gardenvale Rd near the corner of Gardenvale Rd and Nepean Hwy.

Also... interesting to note the following:
PLEASE NOTE: Public Holidays will operate a Saturday timetable with the exception of Good Friday and Christmas Day when a Sunday timetable will operate.
There will no longer be a separate summer period timetable.

I think someone has got route into the Gardenvale terminus wrong? The new map shows the current arrangement, with outbound trips turning right from Kooyong Rd into Gardenvale Rd and terminating at Nepean Hwy.

(For those wondering why it's not a loop, Route 605 does not use the Gardenvale terminus in North Rd as buses coming from the depot turn straight into Kooyong Rd to start their inbound trip)

Kind Regards
