Tasmanian Redline

Post by Roderick Smith »

I have been contacted by the current owner of Austral Tourmaster 1457 of 10/88, asking if it entered service with Tasmanian Redline. It isn't listed there with ABFL, but that could be a gap. In any case, it seems that the 1988 ones were second hand.
Is anyone able to help with a history of this vehicle?

'I have bought (6 months ago now) a 10/1988 Austral Tourmaster of build number 1457. I am led to believe it was first in service with Redline, but I cannot confirm that. The colours that the coach was painted in were (as listed on the manufacture sheet) Carnation Red, Industrial Yellow, White, and Dark Blue Grey. I also found a small section inside the tools compartment that was still in these colours'.

Seven Austral/Mercedes, built over 1988-90, many second hand. Not chassis 1457, unless 1456 is a typo.

Thanks for that major breakthrough, which I have forwarded (with the request that current photos be sent in exchange). What has to be done to get this one added to the fleet list page?

No worries Roderick.Bring up the Tasi fleet lists page.Go to the bottom of the list to the Contact Us bit.Press that and it will bring up a choice of Fleet lists updaters.Select that and follow the section there and you will be able to email the Tasi list updater.
If you are able would you be able to supply some info as to where the current owner purchased the coach from -with registrations would be great as well.We can isolate the complete history of the coach.
Cheers.

The cover of the owner's documentation showed body 1457, but the contents show body 1494. The owner suspects Surfers Paradise Coaches, but I can't find this one there. I can never find anything with the search function: it keeps defaulting to the blank form. Others here can do in 2 min what I can't do in 2 h. The VIN is B514988. I'll dual post to the Queensland thread too. When identity is established, I have three photos ready to post.

Hi Roderick
1457 was chassis B493 as noted by burrumbus above.
1494 was chassis B514-9-88, which was new to Redline as (2) UPJ 030 then CM 0374. Sold as you suggest to Surfers Paradise Coaches as 189 EOE, then to Revline Autotech Luddenham as TV 4456.
Looking forward to the photos.

I can't find the 'Thanks' button, so I can't press it. Luddenham is NSW, but I'll place the photos with the first owner, and hence Tasmania. Revline has onsold it to a private buyer (my contact), who is converting it into a mobile caravan. He has supplied the photos, and part of an early livery show in the toolbox compartment.
