At least the Liberals have brought out the silver lining of most dictatorships and built stuff. Labor is effectively a tool to temper the undesirable parts.

Agreed, but been that way for quite a while now.
An asset of NSW. All opinions/comments are strictly my own.

Jack it up to 10 min all day frequency or better :P

As I said, the ALP could then roll out heaps and heaps of these silly slogans/election material:

FIX the M41
FIX the 461
FIX the ...<insert route number here>

...until they find that (if they're) in government, it's not because there is a lack of $$$ from the government to fund extra services, but rather the lack of drivers to drive the buses!

The thing is, the network is so inefficient as it is that they could find so many extra drivers just by streamlining services, turning more routes into feeder services (or terminating more services on the City fringe) to reduce travel kms and times and providing more consistent timetables and headways. These few things will ultimately free up more resources alone without spending any additional money. Yet politicians are proposing to add more routes to create an even messier network. They need to start thinking about the network as a whole rather than bringing in cheap vote winners for their electorate.

So Gladys just announced that if the Coalition is re-elected, the Opal Weekly cap will drop to $50 for adults. Hmm, that’s even lower than Keneally’s starting price of $57 for MyMulti3

One thing which is really annoying about the Opal system is that it doesn't allow you to see any user statistics. Sure they give you a transaction printout, showing discounts, but there are no weekly or monthly totals or trends.

Like a simple bank statement, utility account, or any other online account, this information should be easily accessible and common sense to display.

I had an app a while ago which showed statistics, including average fare costs, but this changed according to the developer when changes to the Opal API made this no longer able to be easily calculated.

I wish they'd get mobile phone reception first. The central coast really is a black hole of grub-ment spending.

Can only find this reported in today's Daily Telegraph which is behind a paywall - have you been able to find any more details elsewhere?

NSW fast rail: Liberals pledge $80m to realign track between Woy Woy and Sydney

MARCH 17, 2019

NSW Liberals have committed $80 million to develop a new rail alignment between Woy Woy and Northern Sydney designed to shave travel time.

The pledge would be “the first step” towards a fast rail network designed to streamline travel between the Central Coast to Sydney and deliver travel times less than an hour.

The announcement forms part of a $295 million commitment that is assessing fast rail opportunities across the state.

Terrigal State Liberal MP Adam Crouch said the $80 million “put in place the building blocks for the fast rail that will give people greater choice about where they live and how they commute to work”.

The investment will also investigate potential tunnelling options to support high speed trains to between the coast and Sydney.

The NSW Liberals reaffirmed a commitment to start construction of a fast rail network in the next term of government.

Transport minister Andrew Constance said the $295 million package was a “down payment on the future”.

“Last year we appointed High Speed Rail expert Professor Andrew McNaughton to confirm the most appropriate routes, train speeds and station locations and now we are taking the next steps to make fast rail a reality,” Mr Constance said.

Professor Andrew McNaughton is working behind the scenes on the NSW Liberals high speed rail plan.

“We are committed to getting the early work done, so that we can move ahead in delivering a truly revolutionary rail system to connect NSW.”
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian told the Express Advocate in January that the fast rail commitment was a reality.

In December, Ms Berejiklian announced that $4.6 million would be spent planning a high-speed train network with routes from Newcastle to Sydney, Goulburn to Canberra, Lithgow to Parkes and Wollongong to Sydney.

They must be crazy if they think that another consultant will manage to find a better alignment that is feasible. An alignment that everybody else who has looked at the problem for 180 years has somehow missed.

Just asking since Central Coast and Goulburn announcements were 2 and 3 posts above that one. Was wondering which the comment was regarding, or both.

I don't think that anyone has mentioned this story

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-02-24/ ... t/10837986

which was on the ABC website about three days ago. It describe the commutes of 4 people not going to the CBD.

Some of them seem implausible.

50 minute by bus from Kellyville to Macquarie University on the rare day with a "perfect run""??? Otherwise 90 minutes ?

50-90 minutes drive from Kingswood to Westmead ?? How long does it take on the train ? Is this woman some kind of snob, or a germophobe ?

Well... as of the time I'm writing this, it's looking pretty likely that the Coalition will be returned to power for a third term. Needless to say, I'm not happy. Guess we can kiss the Powerhouse Museum and various green spaces goodbye. But hey, at least Gladys can continue and try to make NSW public transport great again right?! Um, yay??
