Re: NSW Railway Observations - October 2017
Educated guess: the Hurstville train was an earlier South Coast service and goes into Mortdale yard after terminating at Hurstville (I remember seeing train movements like that a while back).Stonesourscotty wrote:I meant the hurstville to bondi line was shocked the water fall express was tangara operated and yet the hurstville was Oscar..
Train then re-emerges for the PM peak, goes to Bondi Junction and forms a South Coast service.
There are probably a number of variations to what happens here (eg. it might operate one or two more suburban services), but the OSCAR train ultimately is/was operating a South Coast service at some point.

Late-night terror exercise conducted at Sydney's Central Station
Lucy Cormack
As Sydney slept, two armed "offenders" descended on Central Station, where they were met by more than 160 personnel from the NSW Police Force and emergency services.
The scene formed part of an exercise through the force's Active Armed Offender training program, conducted between 11pm and 4am overnight to test the co-ordination and response of emergency services to a terrorist incident.
Anti-terrorist training exercise held in Sydney
Over 160 personnel were involved in an "Active Armed Offender" training at Central railway station.
Police footage of the exercise, named Exercise Pantograph, showed the offenders clad in skeleton-print face masks and chequered head scarves.
Carrying knives and semi-automatic weapons, the "offenders" arrived on the country train platform at Central Station.
Props, including mannequins and costumes, were used throughout the exercise at Central Station.
After boarding the train, they began attacking "commuters" who were positioned in the carriages as hostages throughout the exercise.
With their hands raised on the train windows, the "hostages" created scenes reminiscent of the 2014 Lindt cafe seige.

"While there was no specific threat to the transport sector, this site was chosen because it is a crowded place where numbers of people gather on a predictable basis," said Commander of the Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Command, Assistant Commissioner Mark Murdoch.
"Recent incidents such as the attack on London Bridge and Borough Market, and the attacks at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris have shown us that armed terrorists can strike anywhere at any time."
As part of the exercise, police assisted role-play civilians who were "injured".

He added that the training exercise was "more dynamic and fluid than regular police firearms training".
During the exercise the "offenders" made a number of references to Islamic State, including carrying the terrorist group's black flag and presenting its one-fingered salute.

Acknowledging the Islamist characterisation of the assailants, Assistant Commissioner Murdoch said it was not an attempt to stereotype any part of the community, but merely "reality".
"Domestically and certainly internationally there is no getting away from the fact the profile for terrorism is underpinned by an adherence to extremist Islamic ideology," he said.

"That is just reality, and we've tried to make the scenarios as real as we can for our responders overnight."
Exercise Pantograph also included personnel from Transport for NSW, Fire & Rescue NSW and Ambulance NSW, and was conducted in and around the train station's tunnels and platforms.
In one scene of the footage, a woman lies "bloodied" on the ground, assisted by a general duties police officer, whom Mr Murdoch said was the most likely first responder in such an incident.
"These things happen very, very quickly and largely without warning. The people who overwhelmingly will be those first to respond are our general duties or our transport command police and they need to be prepared."
Assistant Commissioner Murdoch said the threat of terror in Australia was "probably greater now than it has ever been", adding that ongoing training for high-risk incidents was vital for emergency services.
"We did a lot well [on Tuesday night], but certainly there was a lot that we could do better."

They usually operate the Oscars half-hourly between Emu Plains and North Sydney by reusing the Oscars which originate from the Wyong via Shore to Emu Plains services in the morning peak.boronia wrote:Oscars operate T1 western services between peaks.

Re: NSW Railway Observations - October 2017
So today there are express T1 trains running between the City Circle and Blacktown (theoretically) but in practise are running as express to Penrith and according to crew, this section of the trip is a passenger run.
The station announcements are all stating these are Blacktown terminators, but the trains are displaying Penrith on the Destination boards and on the DVA!

Blue Mountains services seem to be terminating at Seven Hills today instead of going through to Central suburban platforms. I think these are connecting services to take Mountains customers to and from the city. I'm not sure why they aren't running to North Sydney or City Circle like in previous trackwork weekends.Bjwh86 wrote:So today there are express T1 trains running between the City Circle and Blacktown (theoretically) but in practise are running as express to Penrith and according to crew, this section of the trip is a passenger run.

Central Coast trains are running to North Sydney (via Central suburban) and they're continuing as passenger services stopping at all stations to North Sydney, even though indicator boards show Central as the final stop. Sadly (and strangely) they run empty back to Central to form the outbound down service.

Apparently they were timetabled to terminate as passenger services at Blacktown then run empty to Penrith.Bjwh86 wrote:So today there are express T1 trains running between the City Circle and Blacktown (theoretically) but in practise are running as express to Penrith and according to crew, this section of the trip is a passenger run.

One of them runs back to Hornsby via Macquarie Park in the middle of the day. Terminates at Hornsby platform 3 then continues as empty back to Gosford.Richard290 wrote:They usually operate the Oscars half-hourly between Emu Plains and North Sydney by reusing the Oscars which originate from the Wyong via Shore to Emu Plains services in the morning peak.boronia wrote:Oscars operate T1 western services between peaks.
I've never understood running trains empty. Seems like such a waste. There's also quite a few trains that return from Gosford to Sydney Terminal at night as empty.

The Blacktown express terminators have previously been associated with closures between Granville and Cabramatta.

Some are running back to Central as all stations passenger while others are express passenger between Nth Sydney and Central. Not sure the reason for the difference.andy_centralcoast wrote:Central Coast trains are running to North Sydney (via Central suburban) and they're continuing as passenger services stopping at all stations to North Sydney, even though indicator boards show Central as the final stop. Not really associated though. The few extras this weekend are running on the Blue Mountains stopping pattern between Central and Blacktown for part of the day only (in lieu of 8-car BMT Blacktown starters/finishers).boronia wrote: The Blacktown express terminators have previously been associated with closures between Granville and Cabramatta.
The Old Main South closure trains are not express to Blacktown until the section Granville-Blacktown because they run to the same regular stopping pattern between Granville and Central but do run all day.
An asset of NSW. All opinions/comments are strictly my own.

With also Airport Line works going on betweenness Wolli Creek & Glenfield. Not express MacArthur services Bankstown Liverpool services extended instead. What I never understand is when there work west of Wolli Creek Turella Station is closed even though it used to turnaround trains on platform 1.

Re: NSW Railway Observations - October 2017
THis is the second recent weekend this has happened. There is no suggestion of additional T1 services being provided; I was wondering how they would cope with an 8 car load of BMT pax being dumped onto Blacktown station and into already well loaded services.boronia wrote:andy_centralcoast wrote:

THere is no mention of BMT services being altered in tomorrow's timetable (all starting at Central (i)) just a banner stating that some services operating between BMT and Blacktown only.

I'll be so glad as well to have more trains from 26/11 on the weekends.
With Granny Smith Festival on at Eastwood today, trains into and out of Eastwood were packed. An absolute joke that it runs every 30 min.

Re: NSW Railway Observations - October 2017
There were T1 western line express services running from Blacktown to City Circle again this morning, but there seems to have been a change after the 10:55am T1 express to City Circle with BMT services now running to the City Circle as 4V

The "contra peak" BMT services probably remained as 4V, IIRC there are only about 3 BMT diagrams (AM down, PM up) for 8V services.

Something different tonight - saw a train all stations to Berowra via Macquarie Park. It then returned all stations to Hornsby then Gordon, Chatswood and North Sydney where it terminated.

Interesting they would alter the run on a late night Weekend service.
Have been Berowra via Macquarie services in the past, usually when they are doing Night trackwork from around 2200 and the last service to Hornsby via Macquarie is extended to Berowra.

"Newcastle Intg" on the PID:
Also "Newcastle Interchange" being said on the DVA sticks out like a sore thumb.- boronia

How about Interchange on the next line which is just white space?
Re: NSW Railway Observations - October 2017
How about just "Newcastle". Intg is just ridiculous.
