If the Greens party were in charge, instead of a tree 'deflector' device, there would be a tree 'protector' device. It's anyone's guess how that could be achieved, maybe some soft rubber foam and some feathers to ensure when the bus does make contact with a tree, the tree will receive a massage and a tickle.

Ugh and thank goodness that'll never happen. Next they'll come up with an bus thats powered by the sun and sucks up every single plastic thing (including your water bottle) it comes in proximity with. /

I asked both drivers at Sutherland today and neither had any idea what the "ladder" is for. They did not think it had anything to do with trees.

If you ask them about the "ladder" you'll probably get a confused look. It is definitely a tree guard.

The Ladder your referring to is probably a tree deflector? Will save some money until the council cuts the trees on the route

Somehow, I think protecting trees is the last thing greens are concerned about. Watermelons, as the learned John Laws calls them, green on the outside, RED on the inside.
Just rampant lefties with a veneer of an environmental platform for public image purposes.

Great idea, I wish I could see it in action with a built in mulcher. This idea is too efficient as it would cause job losses to power utility staff and local council staff respectively as they would no longer be required to prune trees once every blue moon.

One of the many public "(dis)benefits" of the tram to bus conversions in the 1950s was that, under the Traffic Safety (Lights and Hoardings) Act of 1951, over 800 unfortunate commercial property owners in Sydney were required, at their own expense, to trim back their street awnings to provide clearance for the lower-capacity, bi-level, grinding, slow, stinking, ugly, cramped behemoths that heralded the transition to "modern" street transport in the city. I wonder whether there will be a new wave of awning-trimming in Sydney?

No problem:

I think this problem is mainly confined to minor roads and streets, not so much main roads as the B line will traverse. I do hope they won't expect the shops to pay for alterations in these more fair and enlightened times. *sarcasm*

Camber is still an issue, including on main roads. Not just to awnings, but to power poles as well. You'll often see "Buses keep clear" and other delineations on power poles. In some cases they were just installed too close, but more often than not, road widening is to blame.

That is an issue the camber with power poles, large trees & even bus stop signage. Well it doesn't help they make lanes so narrow particularly bus lanes where buses have to run right next to the kerb. On some bus lanes it's physically impossible to get a bus pass if there is a truck or another large vehicle in the adjacent lane *cough* Botany Rd & Oxford St.

I think the bus lanes on Flinders Street are pretty narrow too. I was on a bendy yesterday and always thought the side mirror would hit something. The bus lane is also pretty bumpy as well.

CSELR construction at Kingsford has destroyed the already substandard bus lanes and now all other lanes are just as abysmal as well.

Transit Systems unveils new double decker buses

Sydney commuters will be seeing double this month, as Transit Systems launches two brand new double deck buses into service, catering to increased patronage growth in the Transport for NSW Contract 3 region.

These are the first of six new double deck buses, funded by the NSW Government, with the remainder of the new fleet to be delivered progressively over the next few months.

Set to increase patronage capacity on the T80, Transit Systems CEO Clint Feuerherdt said the double deck vehicles are licenced to seat 97 passengers.

“Since 2013 Transit Systems has experienced an 12 per cent increase in overall customer satisfaction (between 2012 and 2016), with patronage on the T80 also increasing by 29% to date,” he said.

Under the management of Transit Systems, the T80 service between Parramatta and Liverpool has become Sydney’s first bus rapid transport route, operating a 5 minute frequency service during peak periods.

Service improvements delivered by Transit Systems include key changes such as simplifying timetables, delivering consistent frequency and adding brand new buses – making it easier for commuters to use according to Feuerherdt.

“We are committed to ensuring safe and convenient trips, and continually work to improve connections, timetabling and reliability.

“We’ve already achieved double digit patronage growth and Transit Systems is excited to get these brand new vehicles into operation to continue improving services for the community,” he said.

The double deck buses are designed and manufactured in Australia, and require specialist bus driver training implemented by the manufacturer, as well as a Heavy Vehicle licence.

How long do you think it will be before they ruin these buses with hideous vision-obscuring advertisements across most windows?

The last time I actually got a decker and decided hey lets try the front seat at the top, it felt really watered down because of the adverts..Why not just put them on the back of the bus?

This is the calibre we need for the region six tenders. No conglomerates with a chequered track record here or overseas.
