From what I've read elsewhere last scheduled 8-car set is this weekend, but may be used as replacements

Will still run as 4-car sets on Carlingford and Homebush until September.

As from Sunday, April 28, there are 22 x 8B set Rosters (numbered 1 to 22) required to run the Timetable, Weekdays and Weekends.
2 x 8B sets, out of the total Fleet of 24, will be required for the Maintenance Cycle, 91.6% availability.

Therefore, there is a possibility 8K sets will fill in for B sets, and S sets fill in for K sets, until B23 and B24 enter service.

I just don't believe in chasing these things, which is why I'll cherish the memories of my last two chance scores of my childhood transport. Last one was about two years ago on the Airport line of all places!

I thought S sets were not officially scheduled on weekends for quite some time already.

B13 was recorded above as arriving on 25/1.

I'm sure I've seen 14 around

Two sets were quarantined upon arrival for customs issues for some time. I can't recall the set numbers but it was around the middle of the order.

There’s still a B set at Cardiff, along with an M set too.

They are timetabled as 4K as K sets are replacing S sets, with the B sets replacing K runs. It is believed by a number of people that these services will remain as 4S until at least September as there are some issues with two of the B sets (only 22 are in service AFAIK), at which time they will become 4K.

23 and 24 are only recently delivered, so probably still within the normal test period envelope.

B23 was noticed around AMF most mornings last week, no signs in the doors. B24 still had the signs.

B24 is still "under test", at AMF this morning with signs in place.

Will these be the last double decker suburbans now that we finally have single deckers back, or are they still going to persist with this 1960s Sydney idea that has hardly taken off in the rest of the world ?

Another 17 B sets on order, plus 550 NIF carriages. While all future lines may be built for single deck trains, unlikely there will be a wholesale conversion of the existing lines. Plenty of other cites operate, and continue to purchase, double deck trains.

Are the NIF inter-urban though? And what about partial single deck use like the good old days?

What were they??? Do you mean the early double deck trailers which operated with single deck power cars? They were only a interim arrangement. I can see that coming back.

No, just single deck sets among the fleet, even if they only operate in certain sectors.

If they did bring single decks back for the legacy system, they would probably have to have metro style perimeter seating, maybe even three doors.

They might be good for short working trips, like Revesby and Parramatta terminators?

Or T4 Illawarra ATO down the track when MTMS2 is commissioned by 2022?

It will probably be 15 years before there is another large order for the Sydney Trains network when the Tangaras are replaced, assuming the much delayed life extension project is ever completed.

Not that long surely. It's been traditionally at least once a decade and I have a feeling we'll see single decks sooner than you think, when people have been exposed to the metro.

We are starting to discuss the single decker v double decker in every train thread in particular the current Sydney Trains observation thread so can we please leave it to that thread.

The next replacement program will be conducted by cascading the Oscars from TrainLink to Sydney Trains duties when they are replaced by the NIFs, that will result in the retirement of the K and C sets. That program is not scheduled for completion until 2024. At the moment the Metro is all shiny and new and a bit of a novelty. But the idea that plonking Metro trains onto the existing network would result in a step change in performance and capacity is misguided, let's not go down the dwell time path again.

B24 seems to have lost its "under test" signage, so may now be ready for service?
