And likely Schofields will be a transfer station between the M1 and whatever the Airport Metro is designated.

The Metro has made the area accessible from other parts of Sydney, such as Schofields, Riverstone, Quakers Hill, Doonside and Blacktown, he said.

Nice fingerpointing, Superintendent Joyce; since NONE of those Blacktown LGA suburbs currently have any direct train service by the NW Metro. By the way, the Hills area has already been accessible from Blacktown LGA for years, thanks to those long road vehicles that are called buses.

"The current focus is around the Metro and the people that we're dealing with aren't from this area. That's certainly something that's caught our interest, that's quite new.

It may be new to the Hills, but to wherever in Australia a railway already exists, this is anything but new. It's obvious that areas around railway stations are; more often than not, a magnet for crime; and this particularly includes youth crime if it's a metropolitan or inner city station. I think I might call it the railway crime magnet virus.

Transport Info as at 18.36
Details
There is no service between Chatswood and North Ryde due to flooding at Chatswood. Buses are being organised to replace services between Chatswood and Macquarie Park but they are not on site. A service is operating back and forth between North Ryde and Epping. Delay your journey or allow plenty of extra travel time.

Flooding on the ECRL. Thank you to the NIMBYs who didn't want a bridge over Lane Cover River. https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/mil ... 53zr8.html

I too posted in Railway Observations. This is a direct result of Carr's grovelling to the Nature Conservation Council. Hope they're proud of themselves.

I think the wires were replaced with a single bar overhead in the tunnels.

it's also surprising when you consider that the Labor government caved in to the North Shore NIMBYs when they had zero prospect of winning the local seat. I could never see anything wrong with the bridge proposal, which could have been sympathetically designed to blend in with the landscape without destroying the amenity of the National Park. The tunnel under the Lane Cove River created the needless steep grades between Chatswood and North Ryde and made a proposed additional station at the then UTS Lindfield campus unfeasible.

There was previously a longstanding proposal for an upgrade of the important arterial route between Epping Rd, North Ryde and the Pacific Highway/Boundary St intersection at Roseville, which involved widening of Delhi Rd and construction of a high level bridge across the Lane Cove River in the same vicinity as the rail crossing. It would bypass the existing Fullers Bridge and the hazardous single lane sections of Delhi Rd and Millwood Ave which continue into Fullers Rd to the Pacific Highway at Chatswood. It formed part of a major long term cross regional arterial road corridor (A38) between Brookvale and Parramatta via Warringah Rd, Boundary St, Epping Rd, the Eastwood County Rd and Kissing Point Rd.

However, the North Shore NIMBYs again got in the way, when they objected to the road link passing through the Blue Gum Forest between the river crossing and Roseville. This could be avoided if that section of the link was constructed in tunnel from the bridge crossing. If the then government had shown a little more foresight and resisted the NIMBY opposition, they could have constructed a single combined road/rail bridge.

Eventually, this road link will have to be constructed, including the bridge, as the current mostly single lane sections are grossly inadequate for the level of traffic demand.

The thing about the railway bridge is that it wouldn't have gone across any natural areas at all, just the man-made 1930s landscape of the formal picnic grounds area of the park.

It is absurd that winding rural road continues to serve as the most direct link between two major centres. Bury it if you must.

When the Metro first opened there were three maps included in the Transport Info documentation for each Metro station - Local Area Guide, Bus Guide and Access Guide. Subsequently the link to the bus guide was removed and limited bus information included in the Local Area Guide. Now the bus guide has returned and the Local Area guide includes a reference to the bus guide for bus information, For example for Epping
Access Guide https://transportnsw.info/document/4131 ... -map_0.pdf
Local Area Guide https://transportnsw.info/document/4150 ... -guide.pdf
Bus Guide https://transportnsw.info/document/4151 ... _guide.pdf
I would love to see this level of documentation for all railway stations.

The 541 bus route from Epping to Eastwood is incorrectly shown as 549 at Eastwood Station for what it's worth.

The old route 89 remember that? This must be the Eastwood to Epping leg of it. Several years ago I rode in Mercedes 0405 coach 3143 from Epping to Eastwood along it. A very memorable ride. I recall catching a Deanes Bedford driven by Jack Henson every day for a few weeks back in 1980 while staying with my nan. I'd wait on the same beige brick wall outside a block of units corner Victoria St and Bridge St opposite a petrol station before being greeted by Jack's warm smile as I boarded his stepdeck BLP automatic. :)

I thought you meant at Eastwood station when in fact it is at Epping station.

It is on the Epping guide, but on that map, at Eastwood, it incorrectly shows 549 where it should say 541. 549 does not go to Eastwood.

Correct. Route 549 goes from Epping to Parramatta via North Rocks and Route 541 from Epping to Eastwood. Just a small matter I know, but it still needs to be corrected.

Not sure when it opened, but the direct exit to Castle Towers at Castle Hill station is now opened. Immediately upon exiting is McDonalds and The Reject Shop

It would be circa November-December 2019. It had not opened yet when I was in Castle Towers on 1 Nov, and it was open when I was there again on 29 Dec. My guess would be early December.

EDIT: My guess was correct. It opened on 5 December.
